Job description: The hiring process consists of five phases:Complete and submit the District Application and provide required documentation by the deadline.Pass the District's standard written comprehension exam.Pass the Candidate Physical Fitness AssessmentSuccessful completion of a panel oral interview.Successfully pass the pre-hire medical assessments and background checksDetails on each of these phases are outlined below. Questions should be directed to the Human Resources Section at [email protected] Cadet Academy OverviewThe District's Fire Cadet Academy consists of instruction in firefighting tactics, emergency medical training, physical fitness, and safe practices. The ideal candidate is an individual who is highly interested in serving the community as a Firefighter/EMT.If accepted into the academy, the anticipated start date will be September 29th, 2025. After successfully completing the academy, Cadets will be eligible for probationary regular full-time employment.Successful completion includes:
- Obtaining the Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Structural Firefighter certification.
- Obtaining the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians EMT-Basic certification.
- Obtaining the Texas Department of State Health Services EMT-Basic certification. Successful completion of the IAFF/IAFC Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and meeting the requirements set forth in NFPA 1582, Standard on Medical Requirements for Firefighters.
- Satisfactory periodic evaluations that meet the Districts performance requirements.
- Completed and signed Fire Cadet District Employment Application
- Resume
- U.S. high school diploma or equivalent (If graduating from high school this year, the candidate must provide their diploma prior to the date of interviews.)
- College Degree or transcript(s) (If applicable)
- Current valid driver license issued from your state of residence.
- Once hired, Firefighters are required to obtain and maintain a Texas Class "B" driver license, in accordance with District procedures, as a condition of employment.

- The Fitness Assessment Trial Day (attendance optional) will allow candidates to participate in a PORTION of the Physical Fitness Assessment in preparation for the required assessment:
- Criminal Background Check
- (Findings may or may not disqualify a candidate depending on the offense, date of the incident, and severity. It is recommended to include a detailed explanation of entries on a criminal history).
- Driving Record Check
- (Findings may or may not disqualify a candidate depending on the offense, date of the incident, and severity. It is recommended to include a detailed explanation of entries on a driving record).
- Health Questionnaire
- Complete bloodwork screening and urine analysis
- Health findings that are not in compliance with NFPA 1582, Standard on Medical Requirements for Firefighters
- Evidence of drug or alcohol abuse
- Criminal arrests and convictions
- Crimes involving moral turpitude
- Other matters that would prohibit the candidate from being able to comply with District policy; such as tattoos, piercings, grooming, etc. Please see the
