The Commercial Credit Risk Oversight Team lies within the Global Risk and Compliance Team within American Express. The team plays the critical role of providing oversight of all risk rating and underwriting decisions made within the Institutional (Commercial) Portfolio at American Express globally. The candidate is responsible for conducting independent portfolio monitoring and credit risk assessments, develop and maintain automated monitoring rules, review credit risk processes, and take part in projects that provide effective challenge to credit risk teams. This role assures that Institutional Credit risk is properly evaluated and effectively communicated. The position also provides exposure to a broad range of credit processes in Risk Management with the opportunity to work with and impact numerous diverse businesses at American Express. The breadth of responsibilities in this role provides a great training ground for a candidate looking to understand the key principles of Institutional credit risk management at American Express. Key Responsibilities: • Review and provide effective challenge to rating and underwriting decisions and credit strategies proposed by first line Credit Risk management teams. • Review relevant supporting financial and credit analysis and documentation. • Design, implement, and maintain automated decision rules with objective to fully monitor Credit Risk Processes • Assess adherence to credit policies and procedures. • Collaborate with Business Unit Risk teams to enhance decision processes or address major credit issues. • Provide monitoring of portfolio risks trends, including industry-level monitoring Experience and Background: • 0 – 2 years’ credit risk management experience or underwriting commercial exposures to small business, middle-market, and large multinational institutions • Knowledge of current macroeconomic trends and how they impact the Probability of Default (PD) estimation based on the business cycle. • Strong analytical skills and business acumen with a risk-reward control perspective • Ability to successfully contribute to team projects, manage multiple priorities and stakeholders under pressure. • Ability to build collaborative, trusting relationships across business lines. • Demonstrates the courage to challenge the status quo. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Bachelor’s degree from university with a degree (or substantial coursework) in finance, accounting, economics, or statistics • Experience with data-driven analytical tools (e.g.: SQL, Python, SAS, HIVE, R) is a plus Salary Range: $55,000.00 to $105,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
