Bookkeeper with Nonprofit Specialization

Just meaningful work with a collaborative team that values autonomy, excellence, and mutual growth. Position Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Nonprofit Bookkeeper to join our growing team. This role is ideal for a well-rounded staff accountant with strong nonprofit experience, solid knowledge of accrual accounting, and a firm understanding of GAAP. You will manage full-cycle accounting across multiple client accounts, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and clear financial reporting. The right candidate will be confident working independently, detail-oriented in reconciling complex accounts, and comfortable communicating financial insights. You’ll also bring at least 5 years of experience in full-service bookkeeping or staff accounting, including at least 2 years working with nonprofits. This is a full-time, remote position that offers stability, growth opportunities, and the chance to work with a collaborative team that values autonomy, accuracy, and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
As a Bookkeeper at UltraPrecise, you will manage multiple nonprofit and for-profit client accounts, including:
- Managing client books using accrual-based accounting in QuickBooks Online
- Processing and coding expense documentation through Dext
- Managing AP workflows in Bill.com, including proper coding and approvals
- Categorizing transactions through QBO bank feeds
- Reconciling bank, credit card, and loan accounts
- Reviewing and correcting payroll entries
- Processing complex payrolls, including benefit allocations and accruals
- Preparing accruals and period-end adjusting entries
- Performing quality control on your own work and reviewing financial reports
- Communicating clearly with management regarding client status and accounting issues
- Contributing to SOPs and internal workflows as processes evolve
What We’re Looking For Must-Have Qualifications
- 5+ years of full-service accounting/bookkeeping experience
- 2+ years with QuickBooks Online (QBO ProAdvisor certification required)
- Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual accounting (must know how to handle accruals, prepaids, deferrals—not just say you do)
- Experience supporting nonprofits, including audit prep and fund accounting
- Confident communicator able to manage client relationships directly
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (required)
- U.S. residency and ability to work EST hours
Bonus Experience
- Tools: Dext, Keeper, Karbon, Notion, Bill.com, Asana, Ignition, LastPass
- Preparing 1099s, sales tax filings, quarterly payroll returns
- Cleanup projects and QBO setup
