The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our team as a Geospatial Intelligence and National Security Technologies Intern. As a key member of our research team, you will have the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies, including Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing, to analyze conflicts and inform policymakers on pressing national security issues.

Our internship program is designed to provide hands-on experience and training in national security and intelligence applications, with a focus on geospatial intelligence and technologies. You will work closely with our analysts to refine the implementation of GIS and remote sensing tools, support data collection and analysis, and contribute to the development of world-renowned maps. You will also have the opportunity to interact with our technology partners, including Neo4J, Babel Street, Ntrepid, and Planet Labs, among others.

As an intern at ISW, you will be part of a dynamic and fast-paced environment, working alongside experienced analysts and researchers who are passionate about national security and intelligence. You will have access to classroom education, regular leadership engagement, and opportunities to publish your own research under the mentorship of senior analysts.

Responsibilities

• Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing technologies to support research collection, intelligence analysis, and visualizations
• Refine the implementation of GIS and remote sensing tools to improve research and analysis
• Support data collection, analysis, and visualizations that inform ISW's research and publications
• Interact with technology partners to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in geospatial intelligence and technologies
• Contribute to the development of world-renowned maps and publications

Qualifications

• Motivated and organized college student or recent graduate with demonstrated expertise in a related field
• Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills
• Strong capabilities in GIS software, such as Esri's ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap, or ArcGIS Online
• Ability to conduct complex tasks in a timely and efficient manner
• Self-motivated, independent, creative, and capable of working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
• Demonstrated interest or expertise in national security issues, particularly Russia, Ukraine, China, or issues in the Middle East
• Commitment to and interest in the core mission and values of ISW
