Software Developer | Senior Software Developer [COBOL on iSeries / AS400 -- Power9 or Power10]

Utilizing COBOL programming language on iSeries/ AS400 server, codes the Astec software based on clients’ project specifications to enhance, modify, and maintain the software; assists in planning software installations and maintenance to minimize workflow interruption and downtime; actively participates in ensuring a stable release. Promptly, judiciously, and accurately troubleshoots and solves coding problems/issues; implements changes to code or installation to correct errors; analyzes data input and potential problems that could emerge in the Astec environment and creates contingencies within the software for these possibilities, including error messages or alternate data flows; thoroughly tests the software; debugs or corrects issues discovered during testing. Collaborates with client representatives, leaders, and other stakeholders to fully understand the tasks that must be accomplished by the projects requested; collaborates with clients’ systems analysts to obtain, analyze, and understand project specifications and process flows; actively contributes to ensure that client expectations are met and exceeded; identifies and effectively communicates alternate solutions, as warranted, to ensure optimal solutions are executed. Assists in the development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation of program development and revisions; may assist in the preparation of user documents and training materials. Dynamically enhances Company's success by taking advantage of learning and development opportunities and personally integrating positive actions to improve individual performance. Coordinates, oversees, participates in, and/or conducts "special" projects either independently or as a member of a group, as assigned. Strong knowledge of: Standard business software and web-based engine operations (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Chrome), Software Testing and Maintenance; COBOL coding language; iSeries/AS400 Licenses, Certification, Education and/or Experience Licenses/Certification: N/A Education & Experience: For Software Developer: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field and/or three or more years of Computer Information Systems experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is a plus. Advanced fluency in COBOL coding language on an iSeries/AS400 server is required. Insurance knowledge is a plus. For Senior Software Developer: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial & Systems Engineering, Information Technology, or related field and/or six or more years of Computer Information Systems experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is a plus. Advanced fluency in COBOL coding language on an iSeries/AS400 server is required. Advanced fluency in Python is desirable. Insurance knowledge is a plus.
