A well-funded and dynamic tech company is seeking a Senior or Staff-level Backend Engineer to drive backend architecture and contribute to strategic planning of data infrastructure, search capabilities, and recommendation systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment, has a passion for working on complex data challenges, and is eager to make a direct impact. Their ideal candidate has experience working in at both a startup and larger tech company and is eager to apply those experiences to build something from scratch using what they know. The role offers advancement to lead or manager level (depending on the candidate). Responsibilities • Greenfield development as well as improving current platform architecture, backend services, APIs, and systems written in TypeScript & Node • Design, optimize, and implement efficient data structures in MongoDB and Elasticsearch • Enhance search capabilities and recommendation systems data pipelines to manage and process large-scale data efficiently • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate diverse services and data sources • Implement and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes for scalable solutions • Ensure high performance, security, and availability of backend infrastructure • Diagnose and resolve complex issues in both development and production environments • Contribute to architectural discussions, bringing innovative ideas and solutions to the team Requirements • 6-12 years of experience and track record of shipping high-quality products and features at scale • Recent production experience building backend services and APIs using Node.js & TypeScript • Experience with building API's end to end and event-driven software or Microservices • Experience with setting up data infrastructure, ETL, and large scale data systems and various tools such as MongoDB • Expertise in AWS cloud services, Terraform was a big plus • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively • Strong communication skills and the ability to contribute to architectural decisions Preferred • Previous experience at both startup environments and larger tech companies like Twitter or Meta • Demonstrated ability to design and build systems from scratch including data infra Interested in hearing more?
