JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Department of Plant Science in the at is seeking candidates for a 9-month, non-tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of Turfgrass Science. RESPONSIBILITIES: The position involves a 75% teaching and 25% research appointment, and the candidate will be expected to teach in the 4-year resident and online turfgrass science programs as well as the 2-year certificate program. Recruitment and advising of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as interaction with the turfgrass industry through an extension program that addresses practitioner needs are expected. The successful candidate will engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary projects with other faculty at Penn State University, and with plant scientists at the regional and national level, to develop a research program supported by extramural funding that will lead to improved and sustainable turfgrass systems that foster environmental and economic resiliency. TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will teach six classes in introductory turfgrass science, weed management, and cultural systems to students in the resident certificate and baccalaureate programs as well as online classes through Penn State?s World Campus. Additional courses that contribute to the departmental teaching program in an area(s) related to the candidate?s disciplinary strengths may also be taught. Additionally, the candidate will also advise and mentor undergraduate students. QUALIFICATIONS: M.S. or Ph.D. in the field of turfgrass cultural systems, turfgrass physiology, turfgrass weed systems, or a closely related field. Candidate must possess disciplinary depth in a field relevant to turfgrass science, with the ability and desire to approach problems taking turfgrass systems into account. Candidates must possess effective communication skills (verbal and written), teaching skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and clientele. The candidate must be organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. SALARY: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, this position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties.
