Front-End Engineer

Harper is a high-performance distributed application platform. It combines a database, in-memory cache, and real-time message broker to allow users to create enterprise-grade solutions with fewer moving parts, fewer lines of code, and a superior developer experience.

Job Description

We’re seeking a Front-end Engineer to design, build, and maintain our customer-facing tooling and management systems. You’ll leverage your experience solving hard problems to make it easy for our customers to solve theirs. You will be part of our team building our web-based management system, Harper Studio, to provide a seamless and sublime interface for managing Harper databases and applications. Your efforts will play a key role in delivering on our core promise: Simplicity Without Sacrifice. 

You will also assist in any front-end development for customer projects and Harper components that involve some level of UI design and development.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include designing and building new features, resolving user experience issues, and generally ensuring that our highly-technical platform is a joy to use.

About HarperDB Studio

Harper Studio is the web-based management suite for Harper, allowing for the administration, navigation, and monitoring of Harper instances. Users can manage both cloud and privately hosted Harper instances via the Studio, which can also be run offline/locally from within Harper itself. It performs all database interactions through Harper’s Operations API, ensuring secure and efficient management of your instances.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, build, and deploy the Studio’s front end, both online and as part of the core product.
• Monitor, manage, and respond to customer experience challenges across your product portfolio.
• Identify, scope, and develop new features and templates based on feedback from customers, performance metrics, marketing initiatives, or your own vision of how to deliver an awesome developer experience. 
• Enhance the performance, scalability, and usability of HarperDB Studio.
• Implement new authentication strategies, admin interfaces, and back-end tooling to ensure your product portfolio remains aligned with updates to HarperDB core.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience as a front-end engineer or similar role focused on user interface development and back-end web services
• Expert Front-end: React, State Management, TanStack, Canvas, CSS/Bootstrap
• Back-end experience: Node.js, AWS Lambda, Stripe, OAuth
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Bonus Qualifications

• Knowledge of Harper
• Experience with UI/UX design principles and tools.
• Experience building/managing an enterprise-grade SaaS management platform

Salary Range:  $150,000 - $175,000

Interview Steps

• 1st Stage: 30 minute Zoom conversation with a member of Operations Team
• 2nd Stage: Additional interview questions (typically about 30-45 minutes on Zoom) with members of Harper Engineering or Delivery team.
• 3rd Stage: Take home code challenge.
  • Please note that progression to the next stage is dependent upon our team's review of the code challenge. Not all candidates will move forward. If you don't move forward to the next stage, our team will provide feedback.
• 4th Stage: Review code challenge with members of Harper Engineering and Delivery teams. Discuss solution, and additional interview questions as time allows. Typically 60-90 minutes.
• 5th Stage: 30 minute Zoom get to to know you conversation with Harper Co-Founders
