Online Media Editor – Evening Shift

Onward Search is seeking a talented Online Media Editor for a 12-month contract position (with potential for full-time employment) working remotely but within EST hours. The role requires managing the news desk from 5 pm to 8 pm EST, Monday to Friday. Responsibilities include filing breaking news stories, news analysis, and features; editing and scheduling articles from other contributors; pitching stories; attending briefings; and potentially covering trade shows. Experience in a newsroom, specifically covering consumer technology, science, or autos, is preferred. Basic photography and photo-editing skills are beneficial. This is a 40-hour-a-week position with a competitive hourly rate of $40.00. We are currently seeking a talented Online Editor - Evening Shift for an exciting opportunity with our client who is a global provider of news, entertainment, search engine capabilities. • 100% Remote but must work EST hours. • Exact hours are up for negotiation, being available to run the News Desk from 5pm - 8pm EST Monday to Friday is a requirement. • This is a 12-month, 40-hour-a-week contract position, with the possibility of later full-time employment. • Hourly Pay: $40.00 Responsibilities: • As an Online Editor, you will cover consumer technology, science, autos, more. • During the day, you’ll be filing a mix of breaking news stories, second-day news analysis, and medium-to-long-form reported features. • After 5pm EST, you’ll run the News Desk, which involves editing and scheduling articles from other contributors and writing news articles yourself. • Pitch stories to your Editor, attend news briefings as needed. • Help cover online or in-person trade shows as needed. Requirements: • A familiarity with consumer news and technology. • Experience working in a newsroom, preferably covering consumer technology, science, autos, or another related field. • Must be comfortable covering fast-moving breaking news stories. • Willingness to work a regular evening shift. • Basic photography and photo-editing skills in the event we assign you the occasional product review.
