General Business Attorney - Chevy Chase, MD (HYBRID)

About the position GEICO is seeking an experienced legal professional to serve as a legal advisor for its insurance business units. The role involves supporting the development of new products and refining existing business practices by providing legal advice in a manner that is accessible to non-legal professionals. The legal advisor will collaborate with other attorneys and coordinate specialized legal support as needed, ensuring that the business units receive comprehensive legal guidance to excel in their operations. Responsibilities • Provide legal advice and propose solutions for issues arising in the insurance business units under general supervision. , • Advise on business unit plans and anticipate future legal needs. , • Coordinate support for assigned business units with the legal team and other departments. , • Utilize a wide range of legal knowledge to identify implications of business choices across various legal areas such as privacy, insurance compliance, consumer protection laws, intellectual property, and contractual obligations. Requirements • At least 2 years of experience at a law firm or in-house, preferably as a legal advisor for businesses serving consumers or small businesses. , • Experience in property & casualty insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries is preferred. , • Fluency in English; Spanish is a plus for speaking and writing. , • Must have a law degree and an active law license to practice in the United States. , • Strong listening and communication skills. , • Ability to quickly understand business plans, processes, and procedures. , • Ability to provide legal advice with incomplete information. , • Superb judgment regarding legal risks and mitigation opportunities. , • Solution-oriented mindset.
