About the position The Teacher (C) position within the Department of Correction is a full-time role that requires on-site presence at our facilities. This position is not remote or telecommuting. The primary responsibility of the teacher is to educate incarcerated individuals using an approved standards-based curriculum through both synchronous and asynchronous virtual programming. The teacher will develop standards-based curriculum and create virtual lessons utilizing the Orijin Learning Management System. This role requires proficiency in operating various equipment used in the production of virtual education classes, including cameras, audio equipment, lighting, computers, and editing software. In addition to teaching, the teacher will be responsible for identifying and recruiting potential class participants to maintain maximum program capacity, completing daily attendance to ensure accountability, and updating individual case plans as required by Standard Operating Procedures. The teacher will also administer standardized testing, maintain education files, and collaborate with other professionals to enhance the strategic goals of the Division of Inmate Training and Education. It is essential for the teacher to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of DOC policies and procedures and to interact with staff and incarcerated individuals in a professional manner. The position requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate conference times with students beyond the typical school day. The teacher must maintain current Massachusetts Teaching Licensure and complete required training hours within the fiscal year. This role is critical in providing educational opportunities to incarcerated individuals, contributing to their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Responsibilities • Teach classes to incarcerated individuals using approved standards-based curriculum through virtual programming. , • Develop standards-based curriculum and create virtual lessons using the Orijin Learning Management System. , • Operate equipment used in the production of virtual education classes, including cameras, audio, lighting, and editing software. , • Flex work schedule to accommodate conference times with students beyond the typical school day. , • Demonstrate knowledge of DOC policies and procedures. , • Identify and recruit potential class participants to maintain program capacity. , • Complete daily attendance to maintain accountability of incarcerated individuals. , • Update IMS case plan as required by Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). , • Complete Earned Good Time (EGT) performance ratings for incarcerated individuals in IMS. , • Complete required 40 hours of training within the fiscal year and maintain attendance records. , • Maintain current Massachusetts Teaching Licensure and provide documentation to the supervisor. , • Update SSTA weekly to ensure accurate payroll processing. , • Administer standardized testing to incarcerated individuals as needed. , • Determine eligibility for placement in educational programming. , • Maintain incarcerated individual education files and process documentation as needed. , • Collaborate with other professionals to enhance the strategic goals of the Division. , • Interact with staff and incarcerated individuals professionally and report security concerns. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field. , • At least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time teaching experience, preferably in virtual education. , • Knowledge of principles, methods, and practices in adult education. , • Working knowledge of tests and measurements. , • Ability to work collaboratively with incarcerated individuals and staff. , • Excellent written and oral communication skills. , • Strong working knowledge of computers and equipment used in virtual class production. , • Possession of appropriate Teacher's Certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
