Early Engineer - Backend Lead (Node.js, NATS, Google Cloud)

About Us: We are a pre-seed music tech startup dedicated to helping small music artists refine their craft, find their audience, and grow their reach. With a powerful product ready for launch, we're looking for a skilled early engineer to lead our backend development and elevate our technology stack. About You: You are a passionate and experienced backend engineer with a strong background in... microservices, Docker, and Google Cloud. You have a proven track record of setting up and managing Docker and Google Cloud environments from the ground up. You’re excited about the opportunity to take ownership and make an impact from day one, confidently navigating challenges and driving projects forward with minimal guidance. What You’ll Do: • Take charge of the backend systems, focusing on Node.js, Express.js, and NATS Streaming. • Set up, maintain, and scale our microservices architecture on Google Cloud. • Implement and optimize observability, debugging, and security measures in our Google Cloud environment to ensure system reliability and protection. • Manage and optimize Docker-based environments for smooth deployment and operation. • Collaborate closely with the frontend team to deliver seamless and efficient new features. • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve system issues, including security vulnerabilities and performance bottlenecks. • Lead backend development and become the go-to expert for backend improvements and new features. What We’re Looking For: • Experience: 3+ years of proven experience with Node.js and Express.js in a production environment. • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field. • Event Bus Expertise: Hands-on experience with NATS Streaming or a similar event bus in a microservices architecture. • Cloud, Docker & Security Proficiency: 3+ years of experience setting up, managing, and optimizing Google Cloud environments and Docker, with strong security practices. • Observability & Debugging: Strong experience with observability and debugging tools in Google Cloud to ensure system health and performance. • Problem Solver: Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues with a focus on security and performance. • Leadership Potential: A proactive self-starter with the ambition to grow into a leadership role as the company scales. • Bonus: Experience with MongoDB and Skaffold.
