This position is responsible for creating, modifying, and releasing engineering models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings for umbilical systems, ground support equipment (GSE), launch pad structures, test fixtures, and transportation/handling tooling. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience using Creo (Pro/ENGINEER), applying ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, and working within configuration management and engineering change (CN) release processes. This is a highly collaborative role supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Key Responsibilities

Umbilical Systems

  • Develop, modify, and release configuration-controlled (CN) models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for umbilical assemblies, release mechanisms, routing hardware, and associated components.
  • Define and document interfaces between launch vehicles, payloads, ground support equipment, electrical connectors, and fluid systems.

Creo CAD Design

  • Develop and maintain complex Creo models, large assemblies, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Ensure all CAD models comply with company modeling standards and configuration management requirements.
  • Perform model validation, design reviews, and engineering change release activities.

Ground Support Equipment (GSE)

  • Design and release engineering documentation for test fixtures, test stands, instrumentation hardware, and supporting mechanical systems.
  • Define interfaces between test equipment and flight hardware, including mechanical, electrical, and fluid connections.

Launch Pad & Umbilical Mate Systems

  • Design launch pad structures, mechanical assemblies, and integrated infrastructure supporting launch operations.
  • Document interface requirements between launch pad equipment, vehicles, and supporting systems.

Transportation & Handling Tooling

  • Design lifting fixtures, transport frames, handling rings, transport tooling, and associated hardware.
  • Define rigging requirements, load paths, lifting points, and handling procedures.

General Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards.
  • Maintain engineering documentation through formal Configuration Management (CN) processes.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineers, Structural Analysts, Manufacturing Engineers, and Project Teams to incorporate engineering changes.
  • Support engineering reviews, documentation updates, and continuous design improvements.
  • Ensure designs meet manufacturability, inspection, quality, and program requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong proficiency using Creo (Pro/ENGINEER) for 3D modeling, complex assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME Y14.5 and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience working within Configuration Management (CM) and Engineering Change (CN/ECO/ECR) release processes.
  • Ability to create and maintain detailed engineering documentation for manufacturing and inspection.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting NASA, aerospace, defense, or launch vehicle programs.
  • Familiarity with NASA MSFC modeling conventions and engineering standards.
  • Experience using Windchill or similar Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) / Configuration Management software.
  • Knowledge of electrical connector pinouts, fluid line schematics, and interface documentation.
  • Experience designing:
  • Umbilical Systems
  • Ground Support Equipment (GSE)
  • Test Fixtures
  • Launch Pad Structures
  • Lifting & Handling Tooling
  • Experience with model translation and engineering data exchange between organizations.
