[Remote] Senior Electrical Engineer - water/wastewater (remote allowed)

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Brown and Caldwell (BC) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Electrical Engineer to support projects of strategic importance and work independently on complex issues. The role involves electrical design and management, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating on projects related to water and wastewater systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design low-voltage (typically up to 480V) and medium-voltage (typically up to 15kV) electrical power distribution systems including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, distribution panels, and transformers
  • Oversee the design of conduit, duct bank, and cable tray systems
  • Coordinate the design of lighting systems
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines
  • Prepare construction specifications for electrical equipment and systems
  • Perform engineering services during construction including submittal review and responding to requests for information (RFIs)
  • Carry out short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies
  • Plan and track electrical scope, schedule, and budget at the project level
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs
  • May provide mentorship, guidance, support, and knowledge-sharing to help less experienced team members develop their skills and grow within their roles

Skills

  • Broad experience in electrical design and management including: design and equipment upgrades, power system studies including arc flash hazards analysis, low and medium voltage power distribution system design in an industrial setting, equipment design and selection including motor control centers, drives, switchgear, panelboards, substation transformers, and related equipment
  • Drawing creation including, power plans and layouts, one-lines, wiring diagrams, for plant power
  • Ability to confront difficult problems related to electrical power distribution systems design, motor control systems design, and lighting systems design that may not have clearly defined solutions
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level electrical and Instrumentation and Control (I&C) staff
  • Interacting with clients, managing electrical and I&C related projects, and participating in new business development
  • Design delivery responsibilities including power system modeling, conceptual design development, layout and selection of equipment, development of contract drawings using 2D and 3D design approaches, bid package preparation, field investigations, electrical and I&C design, and support during construction both in the office and the field
  • Design low-voltage (typically up to 480V) and medium-voltage (typically up to 15kV) electrical power distribution systems including switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers, distribution panels, and transformers
  • Overseeing the design of conduit, duct bank, and cable tray systems
  • Coordinating the design of lighting systems
  • Coordinating with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines
  • Preparing construction specifications for electrical equipment and systems
  • Performing engineering services during construction including submittal review and responding to requests for information (RFIs)
  • Carrying out short circuit, protective device coordination, and arc flash studies
  • Planning and tracking electrical scope, schedule, and budget at the project level
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs
  • Competency in electrical power distribution systems design
  • Expertise in motor control systems design
  • Proficiency in the design of conduit, duct bank, and cable tray systems
  • Excellent skills in coordinating with civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines
  • Typically, a minimum of 5 years related work experience in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Has achieved or is working towards achieving professional license
  • Typically will become certified in BC's Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) Framework and progress through the SMS competencies
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience is required
  • 10-15+ years related work experience in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Prior experience as an Electrical Engineer working for government, municipal, and/or industrial water and wastewater industries
  • Ability to work with Designers in Revit/BIM environment along with AutoCAD P&ID
  • Experience in industrial power systems design (medium and low voltage systems), service entrance, feeder and branch circuits, lighting, emergency power and power generation and distribution equipment, power systems studies
  • Solid knowledge in the application of the National Electrical Code
  • Solid knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems, NFPA 70E
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Able to multi-task, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and work independently with a willingness to learn
  • Candidate should be a self-starter, results-oriented, be able to multi-task, and work under tight and pressured deadlines
  • Collaborate with other technical teams for design coordination
  • Supervisory and mentoring experience with electrical staff
  • Power system software design/modelling experience (SKM, ETAP, EasyPower)
  • Experience with renewable and alternative energy design a plus (solar, wind, cogeneration)
