Senior Quality Assurance Engineer – Virtual Testing, Simulation & Mechatronics Systems Integration

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Shape the Future of Automation at arenaflex

Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of what is possible in robotics, automation, and sustainable packaging? Do you thrive in iterative, fast-paced environments where innovation is not just encouraged but expected? If you are an engineer who dreams of applying state-of-the-art technologies to solve extreme-scale real-world challenges and delivering visible benefit to end-users, then this opportunity at arenaflex is built for you.

arenaflex is reimagining the future of fulfillment and industrial automation. Our Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) Team is a hub of brilliant engineers, scientists, and strategists working together to drive transformative innovation across all aspects of mechatronics and packaging. From robotic cells and autonomous vehicles to sortation systems, packing technologies, and sustainable packaging materials, the MSP team owns the strategic vision and execution for the next generation of industrial hardware, controls, and materials that power modern fulfillment networks.

We are looking for a Senior Quality Assurance Engineer – Virtual Testing & Simulation who will lead the development of cutting-edge virtual platforms. These platforms enable solutions to be tested and verified through high-fidelity simulations and emulations at full scale, using real production software components. This is a rare opportunity to sit at the intersection of robotics, simulation, software, and operations, partnering with world-class teams to ensure that every new technology is production-ready, robust, and built to last.

About the Mechatronics & Sustainable Packaging (MSP) Team

The MSP team exists to drive future innovation across all dimensions of mechatronics and packaging. Our work spans industrial hardware, control machines, robotic cells, autonomous vehicles, sortation systems, packing technologies, and packaging materials. We forge strategic partnerships with key stakeholders — including Operations, Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME), ACES, Supply Chain, Transportation, and Worldwide Design — to ensure that we deliver robust products that integrate seamlessly into the broader fulfillment network.

The Quality Assurance Virtual Testing team develops and executes all virtual system test plans (simulations) to validate system-level requirements, meet customer deliverables, and ensure integrated system performance across every sub-component. This includes hardware automation and controls, software applications, and materials compatibility. The team builds or gathers simulation environments from product teams to early validate and stress-test end-to-end solutions, ensuring that new solutions are ready for operation, maintenance, deployment, process integration, material handling equipment (MHE) integration, and service support. The team also supports manual QA testing in the validation of virtual models and uses simulations to rapidly test multiple variables through Design-of-Experiment methodologies. Additionally, the team creates modeling and simulation capabilities for validation and verification in both static and dynamic test environments, while developing test automation within Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) environments using test executors and automation engines that run real automation software.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain simulations and HIL environments to virtually validate end-to-end solutions using real-life production software.
  • Virtually ensure that products meet required specifications for quality, function, operation, reliability, maintenance, training and learning, deployment, process integration, MHE integration, service, and support prior to delivery.
  • Identify and set appropriate quality standards and parameters for products, ensuring alignment with both internal and customer expectations.
  • Communicate quality standards and parameters to the product team, including hardware, software, controls, and materials development teams.
  • Coordinate simulations and testing processes across multiple stakeholders, ensuring synchronized execution between virtual and physical testing efforts.
  • Identify and analyze issues, bugs, defects, and other problems, particularly when problems recur in multiple products; recommend and facilitate solutions.
  • Connect with internal customers, including Operations, RME, ACES, Process Engineering, Operations Engineering, and Worldwide Design Engineering, reviewing client, customer, and user feedback to continuously improve solution quality.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, guidelines, and policies.
  • Drive Design-of-Experiment campaigns to efficiently explore solution behavior across multiple variables.
  • Build and scale modeling and simulation capabilities that support both static and dynamic test environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of proven experience working with large cross-functional engineering teams, with deep expertise in modeling, simulation, testing, integration, and/or quality assurance.
  • Proven experience in fulfillment systems, including storage equipment, material handling systems, automated sortation systems, and related automation equipment.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet aggressive deadlines in dynamic environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex systems and high degrees of ambiguity.
  • Ability to travel up to 70% to business locations and project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems, including robotics and high-speed manufacturing.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with team members, operations personnel, and senior management.
  • Demonstrated project management skills, with a track record of initiating and successfully completing complex projects.
  • Hands-on experience with simulation tools such as Gazebo, MATLAB/Simulink, ANSYS, or equivalent platforms.
  • Familiarity with Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) testing frameworks and test automation engines.
  • Experience working with control systems, PLCs, and industrial automation software.
  • Background in statistical analysis, Design of Experiments (DOE), and data-driven decision-making.
  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant engineering or technical discipline.

Skills and Competencies for Success

To excel in this role, you will need a unique blend of technical depth and interpersonal savvy. The successful candidate will have broad experience and exposure across multiple stakeholders, with deep skills in complex systems integration. You must be comfortable navigating high degrees of ambiguity and working successfully across multiple large engineering and operations teams at a strategic level. Strong attention to detail is non-negotiable, as is the ability to think analytically and abstractly about complex systems. Excellent communication, collaboration, time management, and organizational skills will be essential as you coordinate with diverse teams and drive quality across all products.
