Contact: Elizabeth Smith, Human Resources Assistant - Advanced, [email protected] , 608-267-1351 Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs Making a difference in the lives of Wisconsin veterans The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) currently has a Limited Term Employment (LTE) opportunity for an Oral History Archivist position to work as part of the team at the award-winning Wisconsin Veterans Museum (WVM), sharing the stories of our state's military veterans and their history-shaping exploits. The position is headquartered in the heart of Madison, close to the Capitol and State Street. Position Summary This Archivist position will participate in the structured workflow of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum's Oral History Program. This position supports the Oral History program by making existing oral history interviews accessible to staff and the public. Duties include transcribing, editing, and summarizing interviews; entering and synchronizing metadata; and ensuring accuracy and compliance with established standards. The incumbent will also assist with writing and research projects, including social media, blog posts, assisting with gallery and virtual exhibits utilizing the oral history collection, and other ongoing Oral History program projects. This position performs work on-site at the Wisconsin Veterans Museum under the general supervision of the Curatorial Supervisor and under the guidance of the Oral Historian. Review the position description for additional information about the position's duties and responsibilities. Salary Information The starting pay rate for this Archivist position is $21.27 an hour. This classification is in Pay Schedule 13, Pay Range 04. Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current state employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan. This job does not offer employee benefits. This position is not represented by a bargaining unit. Job Details Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments. The definition of Wisconsin residency for LTE employment can be found here . This position is part-time, expected to work up to 20 hours a week. LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits. Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. The WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • With oral history and archiving technology (e.g., Past Perfect Web Edition, Online Computer Library Center (OCLC), Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS), or similar software); and
  • Capturing, editing, and publishing audio and video recordings; and
  • Digital asset management (e.g., digital archive storage, organization, and retrieval, etc.) Well-qualified applicants will also have experience with at least one of the following:
  • Working with cultural organizations (e.g., museums, libraries, theaters, symphonies, etc.); or
  • Coursework in Museum Studies, History, Archival Studies, Oral History, or a similar field of study; or
