Role Overview – Customer Engineer (Exchange)

As a Customer Engineer – Exchange at arenaflex, you will serve as the primary technical liaison for enterprise clients navigating the legacy and cloud phases of Microsoft Exchange. Working 100 % remotely, you will combine deep technical expertise with a passion for education, helping customers adopt best‑practice configurations, optimize performance, and transition smoothly to modern, cloud‑first environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and support high‑availability Exchange architectures (DAG, Public Folders, Mail Flow, Disaster Recovery, Managed Availability) across on‑premises and Exchange Online environments.
  • Conduct proactive education workshops, health‑check assessments, and technical deep‑dives for enterprise customers, translating complex concepts into clear, actionable guidance.
  • Lead on‑site and virtual training sessions, sharing industry best practices, migration strategies, and troubleshooting techniques with client teams.
  • Collaborate with arenaflex’s consulting practice and product groups to deliver integrated solutions that align with customer project milestones and business objectives.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, presentation decks, and training materials that reflect the latest Exchange and cloud innovations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, building strong relationships that foster confidence, loyalty, and long‑term partnership with client stakeholders.
  • Stay ahead of emerging Exchange technologies, previewing new features before they become mainstream and advising customers on optimal adoption pathways.
  • Analyze and resolve complex technical issues, leveraging PowerShell scripting, SMTP expertise, and failover clustering knowledge to drive rapid remediation.
  • Maintain and extend professional certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Exchange Server, Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator) and contribute to internal best‑practice repositories.
  • Participate actively in arenaflex’s internal developer community, sharing insights, contributing to open‑source tools, and mentoring junior engineers.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Extensive hands‑on experience with Microsoft Exchange Server versions 2010, 2013, 2016, and 2019, as well as Exchange Online.
  • Proven ability to design, deploy, and troubleshoot high‑availability solutions, including Database Availability Groups (DAG), public folder replication, and mail flow routing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Exchange migrations, upgrades, and performance optimization across hybrid environments.
  • Deep understanding of SMTP protocols, failover clustering, and PowerShell automation for Exchange administration.
  • Track record of conducting health‑check assessments, delivering best‑practice recommendations, and guiding customers through change, release, performance, and availability management.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills, with fluency in English (both oral and written).
  • Ability to travel remotely (virtual) and, when required, on‑site to client locations for training and workshops.
  • Self‑motivated learner who continuously seeks professional growth and stays current with Microsoft roadmap updates.

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Microsoft Certified: Exchange Server Hybrid or Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert.
  • Experience with Azure AD Connect, Azure AD, and other Azure services that intersect with Exchange Online.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance features such as Data Loss Prevention (DLP), eDiscovery, and retention policies.
  • Background in scripting languages beyond PowerShell (e.g., Python, Bash) to automate broader infrastructure tasks.
