Junior Cloud Security Engineer Internship

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

This is a remote position. The Junior Cloud Security Engineer Internship Program at EncryptEdge Labs offers a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience designed to build practical expertise in securing cloud environments. Over eight weeks, interns will complete guided projects covering the essential pillars of cloud infrastructure security across major platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. The curriculum introduces interns to cloud architecture fundamentals, identity and access management (IAM), encryption, network security, monitoring, and compliance. Participants will gain experience identifying and remediating cloud misconfigurations, implementing least privilege policies, and deploying secure infrastructure using automation tools. By the end of the program, interns will be equipped with real-world, job-ready skills to design, monitor, and protect cloud-based systems — preparing them for entry-level roles in Cloud Security Engineering or Cloud Compliance and Governance. Key Responsibilities: Learn and apply cloud security principles and best practices across AWS, Azure, and GCP. Set up and secure cloud environments, virtual networks, and IAM policies. Identify and remediate common cloud misconfigurations and vulnerabilities. Implement encryption for data in transit and at rest using native cloud tools. Configure monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (e.g., AWS CloudTrail, Azure Monitor). Conduct security assessments and generate clear, actionable security reports. Explore automation of security controls using Terraform, Ansible, or Python scripts. Complete a final hands-on cloud security project, simulating a real-world cloud defense scenario.

Requirements

Core Qualities: A strong passion for cloud technologies, cybersecurity, and automation. Analytical mindset with attention to detail and problem-solving in distributed environments. Commitment to continuous learning and keeping up with evolving cloud security trends. Strong documentation and communication skills for presenting configurations, findings, and recommendations. Ability to manage time effectively and deliver consistent, high-quality work. Educational and Learning Background: A degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Cloud Computing, or related fields is preferred but not mandatory. Demonstrated self-learning through certifications, online projects, or cloud labs. Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud through personal or academic experience. Foundational Knowledge: Understanding of cloud computing concepts — virtualization, containers, and shared responsibility models. Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs) and security basics (encryption, IAM, firewalls). Awareness of compliance frameworks and best practices (e.g., CIS Benchmarks, NIST, ISO 27001). Certifications (Desirable): AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900). CompTIA Cloud+ or Security+. TryHackMe Cloud Fundamentals or Cloud Security Path. Recommended Courses: Introduction to Cloud Security (TryHackMe or HackTheBox). AWS Cloud Security Essentials (Udemy or Coursera). Google Cloud Security Fundamentals (Pluralsight or Cloud Academy). Key Skillset: Basic understanding of cloud architecture and deployment models (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS). Ability to identify and mitigate security misconfigurations in cloud services. Familiarity with Identity and Access Management (IAM), encryption for data in transit and at rest, and network security controls. Understanding of cloud monitoring, logging, and incident response workflows. Knowledge of compliance and security automation concepts in DevSecOps pipelines. Technical Tool Familiarity: Experience or familiarity with tools such as: AWS CloudTrail, AWS Config, Azure Security Center, or Google Security Command Center. Open-source cloud scanners like ScoutSuite, Prowler, or Cloud Custodian. Terraform or Ansible for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and secure provisioning. Basic scripting knowledge in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks. Logistics and Preparedness: Access to a reliable computer and stable internet connection. Willingness to work in cloud-based virtual environments and follow security best practices. Ability to manage multi-platform lab setups (training and support provided). Preferred Experience: Practical exposure to cloud environments through TryHackMe, AWS Academy, or Cloud Skills Labs. Hands-on experience configuring cloud resources or securing small-scale projects. Interest in cloud-native technologies like containers, Kubernetes, and serverless security.

Benefits

Hands-on Experience: Gain practical knowledge and skills in network security, including traffic monitoring, intrusion detection, firewall configuration, and advanced cybersecurity practices. Professional Development: Receive guidance on career development and opportunities to build a portfolio through real-world challenges and presentations. Global Exposure: Participate in a global internship program, connecting with cybersecurity professionals from worldwide. Certificate of Completion: Earn a certificate of completion at the end of the internship, demonstrating your proficiency in network security engineering. Letter of Experience: Interns who successfully complete the program will also receive a letter of experience, outlining the skills and competencies developed during the internship. Letter of Recommendation: Outstanding interns will receive personalized letters of recommendation from EncryptEdge Labs.
