[Remote] Head of Accounting/Controller

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. KTeam is a profitable, founder-led digital media publisher seeking a CPA-credentialed Controller/Head of Accounting. The role involves modernizing finance and accounting systems to support rapid growth and ensuring optimal scalability for the business.

Responsibilities

  • Monthly close for the consolidated group: six entities (two wholly-owned operating subsidiaries, one 50% joint venture, and three additional ventures where we serve as the operational partner with minority equity positions). Accounting treatment for the partner ventures is part of your remit to confirm. Target close cycle: 10 business days within six months, 7 within nine
  • Consolidated monthly reporting, plus individual reporting packages for the partner ventures
  • Intercompany discipline — monthly settlement cycle, documented services agreements, accurate K-1 source-of-income breakouts
  • ERP selection and implementation if you make the case for it — Rillet, Campfire, or Sage Intacct depending on what you recommend. External implementation support already budgeted
  • AP and corporate card platform rollout (Ramp) across all entities; banking consolidated onto Mercury
  • Deferred revenue rigor — large client prepayments routinely span 2–3+ months of advertising and services delivery and must be recognized against actual contract performance
  • W-9/1099 compliance for a creator-heavy vendor population and the policies that keep it clean as volume grows
  • A three-person bookkeeping team you’ll coach and develop into a higher-functioning unit
  • Tax-ready financials and the working relationship with the outside CPA
  • Internal controls, audit-trail discipline, and the diligence-readiness work that positions the group for whatever comes next (audit, quality of earnings report, capital raise, M&A)
  • Operating scale today: ~50–75 client invoices issued per month, projected to grow to 75–100 within the next quarter; ~350–500 vendor and creator payments processed per month, projected to grow to 500–750 within the next quarter; six entities; three bookkeepers; you — direct line to ownership

Skills

  • Active CPA
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ in a senior accounting manager or Controller role
  • Real hands-on experience with multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, and the control/VIE analysis (ASC 810 / ASC 323) that determines whether minority-equity ventures consolidate or get equity-methoded
  • Technical depth in ASC 606 revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and GAAP financial statement preparation
  • Direct experience operating in or implementing a modern multi-entity ERP (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Rillet, Campfire, or comparable) — QuickBooks-only backgrounds will not be a fit
  • A track record of building or fixing a close process — reducing cycle time, documenting procedures, raising data quality
  • 1099-NEC compliance experience for contractor-heavy vendor populations
  • Direct people management experience
  • Industry background in digital media, agency, creator economy, or marketing services
  • Ramp, Bill.com, or comparable modern AP platform implementation experience
  • M&A diligence, quality of earnings, or financial audit-readiness exposure
  • Big 4 or strong regional public accounting foundation

Benefits

  • Full-time, exempt
  • US-remote; East Coast business hours preferred
  • Quarterly in-person leadership meetings (travel covered)
  • 10–20% performance bonus tied to close discipline, reporting quality, and team development
  • Standard benefits
