[Hiring] Customs and Trade Compliance Specialist II @Convatec

Role Description The Customs and Trade Compliance Specialist supports the execution of the company’s customs and trade compliance program within a regulated medical device environment. This role will support corporate international customs and trade compliance projects, tasks, and operational activities for Convatec locations in the US, CA, and other global Convatec locations as needed. Must be a self-starter who enjoys partnering across the organization, learning new things, and has a “roll-up our sleeves” attitude.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Customs and Trade Compliance team in the delivery and execution of a standardized compliant international trade compliance program within Convatec.
  • Assist with operational responsibilities for US / CA (other markets as needed) customs and trade compliance program, both import and export.
  • Ensure import and export shipments conform to governmental rules and regulations by managing inquiries and requests from brokers, forwarders, manufacturing sites, distribution centers, etc.
  • Support the Temporary Importation Under Bond (TIB) process activities for goods entering the country for temporary purposes ensuring regulatory adherence.
  • Support the FDA Import for Export (IFE) program activities to include import, export, and reconciliation process.
  • Identify areas for process improvement in the daily resolution of customs and trade compliance related international transactions.
  • Support continuous improvement and opportunities for trade automation.
  • Support Convatec’s customs and trade compliance recordkeeping program.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and keeping current standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Support the review of global (UK, NL, US, etc.) Harmonized Tariff Codes (HTS) and process to update and review SAP master data.
  • Maintain broker and customs agency reports and KPIs, monitor broker performances, and support MBRs.
  • Support the development and maintenance of customs and trade compliance process and procedures.
  • Assist with evaluation, investigation, and mitigation of potential customs and trade compliance risks.
  • Assist with utilizing global classification software solution to automate and manage/audit global HTS classification.
  • Support entry verification integrated system solution to automate and manage import entry data verification/audit.
  • Assist with manual audits of entry data utilizing broker data and government reporting.
  • Assist with Trade Compliance KPI development and maintenance.
  • Support projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification principles.
  • Knowledge of U.S. import/export regulations.
  • Possess analytical problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to support new ideas and strategies.
  • Good working knowledge of SAP transactions and reports (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines and discern priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in groups.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn in new or unfamiliar areas of global trade compliance.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years experience in international trade compliance regulations and procedures for import and export.
  • Bachelor's degree (equivalent experience could be considered).
  • Familiarity with regulated industry (medical device, pharma, etc.) is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with TIB, IFE concepts or exposure is a plus but not required.

Working Conditions

  • Position is remote but office presence may be required for certain meetings or events.
