NCDIT - EDO - Specialist- Mid Level/GIS Coordination Support Specialist
Role : Specialist- Mid Level / GIS Coordination Support Specialist Client : NCDIT - EDO (North Carolina Department of Information Technology - Enterprise Data Office End Client : State of North Carolina, Geographic Information Coordinating Council (GICC) / CGIA Location : Hybrid – Raleigh, NC (1 day onsite per week, typically Tuesdays. Must be local) Project Overview The Enterprise Data Office (EDO) within NCDIT requires a support specialist to assist the GIS Coordination Program Manager in the implementation of Geographic Information Coordinating Council (GICC) initiatives. This role bridges administrative support for six distinct subcommittees with technical execution for specialized working groups. The objective is to promote statewide GIS technology usage by standardizing geospatial solutions, establishing best practices, and validating high-quality data workflows for public access channels like NC OneMap. Duties/Responsibilities
- Program & Committee Support: Provide administrative support to 6 subcommittees and technical support to working groups. Partner with the Program Manager to plan, develop, and evaluate Council policies, strategies, and initiatives.
- Documentation & Communication: Coordinate with working group members to document application/website criteria. Write technical charters, formal reports, meeting minutes, policy updates, and framework dataset schemas.
- Data Management & Automation: Compile complex geospatial data from multiple disparate sources. Utilize scripting or automation tools to streamline spatial data edits and run strict quality assurance checks prior to publication.
- Content & Platform Development: Research emerging technical solutions, maintain active geospatial datasets, and build out public-facing online content, including mapping applications and website environments.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related technical field.
Required Experience
- 3+ years of hands-on experience using Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop suite of applications (specifically ArcMap and ArcGIS Pro).
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience editing, maintaining, and managing GIS data inside an SDE versioned multi-user environment.
- 3+ years of expert experience in data visualization, cartography, and designing static/interactive maps for clear stakeholder communication.
- Strong functional experience leveraging ArcGIS Online tools (specifically Experience Builder, StoryMaps, and Survey123).
- Prior exposure to mapping fundamentals, applying automated geospatial workflows, and working with NC OneMap infrastructure (Highly Desired).
