Senior Operations Engineer - Crypto
Senior Operations Engineer - Crypto Career Renew is recruiting for one of its clients a Senior Operations Engineer - Crypto - this is a fully remote position for European based candidates. We are building institutional-grade DeFi operations infrastructure. The systems, automations, and security layers that make on-chain asset management reliable at scale. We operate vaults, multisigs, and on-chain treasury systems across Ethereum, Arbitrum, Stable, and many other chains. We hold ourselves to the standard that getting it wrong means real financial loss. We're looking for a Senior Operations Engineer to own the reliability, security, and observability of the systems that keep us running. The Role This isn't a build-and-hand-off role. You'll own the full lifecycle of critical automation infrastructure, from architecture and implementation through to the monitoring, failure handling, and continuous hardening that production DeFi demands. You'll work across our security automation stack, operational pipelines, and alerting systems, and you'll be the person who spots the gaps before they become incidents. Priority Objectives (First 90 Days)
- Security Automations - Highest Priority Complete hypernative integration across fortified wallets and Safes. Implement transaction policy scanning so every outbound destination address is reviewed before execution. Establish comprehensive whitelisting across all operational wallets. Audit and harden existing security configurations to institutional standard.
- Automation Reliability Build comprehensive test suites for all critical automation paths, signer, vault onboarding, transaction validation. Implement defined, tested behaviour for every failure state. Establish confidence metrics so the team can quantify reliability of each automation.
- Monitoring & Alerting Design a monitoring system that surfaces the right signal at the right time, built collaboratively with the design team for usability. Establish tiered alerting (critical, warning, informational) with clear escalation paths. Ensure consistent coverage across all supported chains.
Experience & Skills Must Have
- 5+ years software engineering with 3+ years in DeFi/Web3 operations
- Direct experience operating DeFi vaults, multisigs, or on-chain treasury systems
- Hands-on experience with Safe (Gnosis Safe) SDK and transaction flows
- Security integration experience (Hypernative, Blockaid, Forta, or equivalent)
- Automation engineering: building, testing, and maintaining production automation pipelines
- Strong testing methodology — unit, integration, and end-to-end testing of automated systems
Strong Preference
- Experience with monitoring and alerting platforms (Datadog, Grafana, PagerDuty, or custom-built)
- Familiarity with the ERC-4626 vault standard and tokenised vault mechanics
- Multi-chain operations experience across Ethereum and L2s
- Custody platform experience (Fireblocks, BitGo, or equivalent)
Nice to Have
- Rapid prototyping ability — comfortable using AI tooling to ship internal tools quickly
- Client-facing communication skills for onboarding and technical support
What the Ideal Candidate Looks Like This person has been the one responsible for keeping DeFi infrastructure running in production. They've managed multisig wallets with real money at stake, built automations that execute on-chain transactions, and have been woken up at 3am when something went wrong. Their background is one where getting it wrong means real financial loss, not just a bug ticket. They are security-obsessed by default. They don't treat security as a feature to add later — it's the lens through which they evaluate every system. They've integrated with security monitoring tools, they understand transaction simulation, and they know why whitelisting matters operationally. They are relentless about testing. They've been burned by automations that worked 99% of the time and understand that the 1% failure at scale is what causes real damage. They build test harnesses, simulate failure states, and don't ship without confidence. They look around corners. At the senior level, this means identifying risks and gaps before they become incidents. They've seen enough operational failures in DeFi to pattern-match on what's coming, and they address it proactively. They move fast when it counts. Their default mode is methodical and thorough, but they can spin up a prototype using AI tools to unblock a client or answer an urgent internal question. They know the difference between a prototype and production, and treat them differently. Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
