Employment Litigation Paralegal (Remote)
Paralegal - Employment Litigation (California Remote) Position Overview We are seeking a skilled Paralegal to join our employment litigation team supporting California matters in a fully remote capacity. The Paralegal will provide substantive litigation support to attorneys handling wage-and-hour, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other employment-related claims. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with California employment law and litigation procedures, strong drafting and discovery skills, and the ability to manage a busy caseload while maintaining excellent attention to detail and client communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day litigation support to attorneys handling California employment cases, including individual and class/representative matters.
- Draft and edit pleadings, motions, oppositions, declarations, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement agreements, and mediation briefs.
- Manage and respond to all phases of discovery: prepare written discovery, organize and review documents, code and produce documents, coordinate privilege logs, and assist with e-discovery tools.
- Prepare and maintain case files, timelines, calendars, and task lists; manage deadlines, court calendars, and e-filing in California state and federal courts.
- Assist with witness preparation, deposition notices and subpoenas; coordinate and support depositions, mediations, and hearings.
- Conduct legal research and gather statutory and regulatory authority under California employment law (e.g., Labor Code, FEHA, PAGA), summarize findings for attorneys.
- Communicate regularly with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and experts; prepare cover letters, status reports, and billing entries.
- Coordinate with experts and consultants, compile exhibits, prepare demonstratives, and assist in trial preparation.
- Maintain accurate billing and timekeeping records, manage document management systems, and follow firm protocols for confidential client data and privilege.
- Contribute to practice development by identifying process improvements, templates, and training opportunities for the litigation team.
Qualifications
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent coursework; bachelors degree preferred.
- Minimum 3+ years of paralegal experience focused on employment litigation in California (state and/or federal courts).
- Demonstrated experience drafting motions, briefs, discovery, and mediation materials in employment matters.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law and procedures (Labor Code, FEHA, PAGA, wage-and-hour claims) and familiarity with local court rules and e-filing systems.
- Experience with discovery and e-discovery platforms, document review, privilege logs, and production standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong legal writing and proofreading abilities, and attention to detail.
- Proficient with legal research tools (Westlaw or Lexis), Microsoft Office suite, and case management/software (e.g., Clio, MyCase, Relativity, Logikcull).
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage competing deadlines, and collaborate effectively with attorneys and staff.
- Professionalism, discretion, and commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and ethical standards.
