Remote Behavioral Health Medical Coder (MethaSoft / OTP Experience Preferred)

We are an outpatient behavioral health / opioid treatment program seeking an experienced medical coder to support our billing and revenue cycle on a part‑time, ongoing basis. Scope of work Review provider documentation for behavioral health and substance‑use disorder services (outpatient, intensive outpatient, MAT/OTP). Assign accurate ICD‑10‑CM, CPT/HCPCS, and any applicable modifiers for mental health and SUD encounters. Enter and verify codes and rates within our EHR/billing system (MethaSoft) and prepare claims for clean submission. Identify missing or unclear documentation and send concise queries to providers when needed. Assist with correcting denials and resubmitting claims related to coding issues. Must‑have qualifications 3+ years of hands‑on medical coding experience, including significant behavioral health / mental health work. Strong command of ICD‑10‑CM and CPT/HCPCS for: psychotherapy, medication management, MAT/OTP services, and SUD‑related diagnoses (IOP, PHP, OP). Experience coding for outpatient clinics, community mental health centers, or opioid treatment programs. Familiarity with payer rules for behavioral health (Medicaid and commercial plans). Relevant certification strongly preferred: CPC, CCS, or equivalent. Nice to have Direct experience working in MethaSoft for methadone or other OTP services (or similar OTP EHR/billing platform). Prior work helping small practices or programs clean up backlogs and improve clean‑claim rates. Engagement details Estimated 10 hours per week to start, needs will change as payers change rates. Ongoing relationship (not a one‑time project) if we are a good mutual fit. Hourly contract on Upwork; please include your typical rate range for behavioral‑health coding. Fully remote; U.S. Eastern time‑zone overlap for at least 2–3 hours per day is helpful.
