Senior Geochemist - Mining Team
Brief Description Senior Geochemist - Mining Team Location: Flexible (Hybrid or 100% Remote, Approved States) Compensation: $125,000 - $175,000 annually (negotiable based on experience) Position Summary Spheros Environmental is seeking a creative, talented, and motivated Senior Geochemist with 15+ years of mining-related experience to lead a variety of environmental and mining-related projects in the U.S. and abroad. This position is ideal for individuals with a solid background in mining geochemistry and an interest in applying their expertise to the unique and varied challenges involving hydrogeology, hydrology, water quality, water management, pit lake chemistry, mining impacts assessment and mitigation, geochemical modeling, chemical fingerprinting, materials characterization and more. Key Responsibilities
- Apply geochemical principles to evaluate material characteristics, water-rock interactions, contaminant transport, and environmental water quality
- Perform geochemical modeling using tools such as PHREEQC, and/or Geochemist’s Workbench to support site evaluations, remediation planning, and impact assessments
- Analyze and interpret geochemical and hydrogeological data sets from field and laboratory investigations
- Develop technical reports, proposals, and presentations with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and scientific rigor
- Use strong communication skills to collaborate with geologists, hydrogeologists, environmental scientists, and engineers across disciplines and project phases
- Travel to remote mine sites for site visits and client meetings
- Maintain high standards of quality and safety in all project work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Civil/Environmental/Geological Engineering, or a related field
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Geochemistry or a closely related field
- 15+ years of professional experience in mining-related geochemistry, hydrogeology, and/or environmental science
- Strong academic or practical experience in:
- Environmental water quality assessments
- Geochemical modeling (PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, or similar tools)
- Water-rock interaction processes
- Basic hydrogeology concepts and applications
- Familiarity with laboratory geochemistry techniques and material characterization program design
- Field experience conducting rock/soil logging and sampling, groundwater sampling, well construction and testing, or related tasks
