Freight Agent / Independent Freight Broker (1099) Location: Remote (United States Only) Compensation: Commission Only | $50,000 – $350,000+ annual earnings potential Employment Type: Independent Contractor (1099) Industry: Logistics | Freight Brokerage | Transportation Position Overview HireNow Staffing is conducting a confidential search for experienced Freight Agents and Independent Freight Brokers to develop and manage domestic freight business across the United States. This role is intended for professionals who understand freight brokerage at a practical level and are capable of independently generating, managing, and growing transportation accounts. This opportunity is structured for individuals who operate with a high level of accountability and ownership over their customer relationships and revenue generation. Candidates must be comfortable prospecting, negotiating freight rates, managing carrier relationships, and ensuring service delivery without requiring daily supervision. This is not an entry-level role. Candidates must demonstrate relevant freight brokerage or freight sales experience and the ability to operate successfully in a commission-only structure.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Account Acquisition
- Identify, pursue, and secure new domestic freight opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, and industry networking.
- Develop long-term relationships with shippers, manufacturers, distributors, and logistics decision-makers.
- Generate and manage your own sales pipeline, ensuring consistent revenue growth.
- Maintain consistent communication with customers to strengthen relationships and secure repeat business.
Freight Brokerage & Shipment Management
- Quote lanes accurately and negotiate competitive pricing with both customers and carriers.
- Coordinate freight movement using your preferred operating structure (cradle-to-grave or tendering to internal support teams).
- Ensure freight moves efficiently while maintaining service expectations and timelines.
- Resolve issues related to capacity, service delays, or delivery disruptions when necessary.
Carrier Relationship Management
- Build and maintain relationships with reliable carriers and transportation partners.
- Source capacity and secure carrier commitments based on lane requirements and customer needs.
- Evaluate carrier performance and maintain service quality standards.
Revenue & Performance Ownership
- Operate independently while maintaining accountability for business development, account growth, and revenue generation.
- Track and manage shipment activity, margin performance, and account health.
- Continuously expand freight volume and strengthen your market presence.
Required Qualifications (Non-Negotiable) Candidates must meet all of the following requirements to be considered:
- Proven experience in freight brokerage, freight sales, or logistics coordination.
- Direct exposure to domestic freight transportation, including working with 3PLs, freight brokerages, or asset-based carriers.
- Strong understanding of freight pricing, lanes, carrier sourcing, and shipment coordination.
- Ability to independently generate and develop freight business.
- Demonstrated career stability and professional reliability.
- Ability to operate successfully in a commission-only, independent contractor structure.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Must be based in the United States and authorized to work without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications (Strongly Emphasized) Candidates with the following qualifications will be prioritized:
- Existing book of freight business or established customer relationships.
- Experience managing freight cradle-to-grave.
- Multi-modal experience including truckload, LTL,
