Position Summary:
The Florida Atlantic University?s Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a full-time nine-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Stage and Screen Writing. This position will teach, mentor, and contribute creative and/or scholarly research from deep experience and training.
FAU is centrally located in the South Florida region in a vibrant and very active theatre and film community. The department produces seven shows per year in the academic unit, two shows through the Summer Repertory Theatre Program, and offers substantial professional opportunities to faculty and students working closely with the resident professional theatre company partner on campus, Theater LAB. The theatre department offers seven majors and two minors at the B.A., B.F.A., and M.F.A. levels in Design and Technology, Performance, and Musical Theatre. The Department currently serves approximately 170 students a year including approximately 30 Dance Minors, 20 BFA Musical Theatre majors, 20 BFA Performance Majors, 20 Design and Technology Majors, and approximately 70 general majors. The department produces our productions through our four theatre spaces on campus, including a newly renovated 500 seat proscenium theatre, our 150 seat black box theatre, and two smaller 80 seat black box theatres. The successful candidate will be asked to contribute to the creation of an MFA in Writing for Stage and Screen and to investigate possible collaborations with other university partners in the implementation of that degree. A passion for growing the program with long-term goals of creating a program in Film and TV production is also expected. The successful candidate will be required to maintain a creative portfolio in support of Promotion and Tenure and to participate in curriculum creation, recruitment, program promotion, and university service.
The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with Theatre Lab, FAU?s on-campus professional company dedicated to the development and production of new plays for the American theatre.
The typical job responsibility for this position is teaching a 3/2 load with release time for research and creative activities which may include choregraphing, coordinating, and creating work for departmental projects. This position will also serve as the mentor/advisor for majors and minors and other recruitment/committee work for the college.

Summary of Responsibilities:
- Responsible to the Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State University.
- Responsible for teaching, service, and related administrative activities.
- Responsible for advising and related activities.
- May represent the university, college, or department on committees
- A Terminal degree from an accredited institution in Theatre by the starting date of the appointment.
- A Minimum of four semesters experience (part time acceptable) teaching dance at the college or university level.
- Experience writing for Stage and/or Screen.
