Senior Associate, Strategic Communications

Hirsch Leatherwood is a strategic communications firm, offering comprehensive and bespoke services to executives and brand managers at industry-leading companies.

Our Senior Associates are responsible for serving multiple clients and producing a variety of work across brand and reputation management, brand positioning, corporate content, thought leadership, media & analyst relations, and landscape research. Senior Associates will also be expected to help our clients use these materials, so the job entails some meetings and project management.

Above all else, Senior Associates will operate with support, but also a maximum of autonomy, and enjoy the unique satisfaction and flexibility that come from doing so.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the account engine, leading execution of daily client work and project management.
  • Conduct regular media relations across clients and industries, developing media lists and accountable for delivering PR results
  • Write and edit memos, pitch decks, thought leadership pieces, and all manner of corporate content, from white papers and case studies to social media and blog posts.
  • Serve as a key voice to build trust with clients, support new business proposals and submit ideas
  • Assist in the development of Hirsch Leatherwood's weekly newsletter, Out of Scope, by keeping up with industry news and trends.
  • Own key elements of client projects and workstreams, support initiatives to develop the firm brand
  • Provide feedback and guidance to junior team members

Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of work experience.
  • A distinguished undergraduate record, preferably in the humanities. Marketing and communications degrees are welcome, but usually as a secondary degree after study in another field, like English, political science, history, or the sciences.
  • Strong communications skills, especially the ability to write lucidly in a style appropriate to the work at hand.
  • An exacting work ethic that does not neglect the importance of detail.
  • Experience in client services or the poise to learn such work quickly.

Benefits:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance, 401K + match, wellness stipend, and quarterly team wellness days to recharge.
  • You won't become siloed in a particular area - you'll contribute across all the firm's development functions.
  • You get to work with a slew of fascinating brands across verticals, helping senior leadership make critical decisions.
  • Flexible PTO.

Quirks of the job:

  • We would be lying if we said this was a standard 9-5 job. As is the nature of client services, there will be a few late nights, but as a close-knit team, we'll do our best to spread the load when possible.
  • Every Hirsch Leatherwood employee is a strong writer, first and foremost. After our initial conversation, we'll ask you to take a short writing test. That our whole team fulfills this requirement shows up in the quality of our work for our clients.

Hirsch Leatherwood is an equal opportunity employer. We don't tolerate discrimination against protected characteristics (gender, age, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnicity, religion, disability, veteran status.) We want all employees to treat others with respect and professionalism. In practice, this means that we:

  • Hire and promote people based on skills, experience, or potential and try to reduce bias in every process
  • Make accommodations to help people with disabilities move about safely on our premises and use our products, services, and equipment.
