The Cell Therapy Nurse Coordinator plays a central role in directing and coordinating care for Standard of Care (SOC) Cellular Therapy patients. This includes determining treatment eligibility, providing patient and caregiver education, coordinating multidisciplinary care, tracking key data, overseeing diagnostics and treatment orders, ensuring proper consents, and managing all activities essential to comprehensive patient care.

The Cell Therapy Nurse Coordinator is accountable for delivering high‑quality, evidence‑based care in collaboration with the interprofessional team. This role advocates for patients and caregivers, organizes and prioritizes work to support efficient care, and assists team members to ensure optimal outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience in CAR‑T therapy, cell therapy, or stem cell transplant, with a preference for candidates holding Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN), Blood & Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN), or Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Certified Nurse (TCTN) certification. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who currently reside in or are open to moving to the State of Texas.

This position requires onsite orientation and training, with additional onsite presence as needed to support business operations.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Care Coordination and Communication The Cell Therapy Nurse Coordinator will:

  • Build relationships with patients and caregivers once eligibility is determined and treatment approval is granted.
  • Establish a consistent point of contact for patients throughout their cellular therapy journey.
  • Support patients with planning, logistics, and therapy‑related goals.
  • Work with surgical teams to ensure proper chain of custody is maintained.
  • Coordinate timely appointments for support services such as apheresis, social work, dietetics, and enhanced recovery.
  • Monitor patient transitions between ambulatory and inpatient settings, collaborating with care management teams in both areas.
  • Collaborate with the SOC Assistant Cellular Therapy Coordinator to address financial and clinical matters affecting treatment.
  • Communicate with healthcare team members and other organizational partners to support patient needs.
  • Assess patient, family, and caregiver needs after financial approval and throughout care, including psychosocial, financial, and emotional changes.
  • Provide daily updates to the Assistant Cellular Therapy Coordinator for tracking within the institutional database.
  • Apply knowledge of payer requirements and insurance processes affecting cellular therapy.
  • Ensure all patient matters related to eligibility, logistics, and treatment meet REMS requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

  • Provide education to patients and caregivers on the cellular therapy process, available support services, and REMS requirements.
  • Coordinate with the clinical team to deliver education about cellular therapy to patients, families, and caregivers.

Communication

  • Report concerns and conduct follow‑up regarding the coordination of appointments, tests, and procedures with appropriate scheduling or care team members.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with key ambulatory and inpatient partners across UT MD Anderson, including faculty, advanced practice providers, nursing, case management, social services, and other teams.

Documentation

  • Prepare clear patient screening summaries for use by the care team. Complete all documentation requirements using standardized processes that follow national regulatory guidelines.

Professional Development and Performance

  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor conferences and review recommendations for alignment with NCCN or other national guidelines.
  • Engage in performance improvement activities that enhance the experience of patients, families, and caregivers.
  • Complete all mandatory training, education, and annual competency requirements.
  • Expand knowledge of local and national resources available to patients and families.
  • Meet established productivity benchmarks, caseload expectations, and documentation standards that support program performance.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing or Associate's Degree Nursing.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: With a Bachelor's degree in nursing, Five years Nursing experience, including two years of oncology nursing.
  • Required: With an Associate's degree in nursing, Seven years Nursing experience, including two years of oncology nursing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Upon Hire
  • Preferred: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire
