This role designs and develops engaging learning experiences that support HCM programs, projects, and recurring release cycles (e.g., Workday, UKG). The Instructional Designer works closely with the Change Enablement Lead, Training & Adoption Coordinator, HRIS/Configuration teams, and the Communications Team to ensure learning solutions are effective, scalable, and aligned with organizational change strategies.

Key Responsibilities

Learning Design & Development

  • Design and develop high-quality learning content, including eLearning modules, videos, simulations, job aids, quick reference guides, and micro-learning assets.
  • Apply instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE, SAM) and adult learning principles to create impactful, learner-centric training.
  • Build and maintain modular content that can be quickly updated to align with recurring HCM system releases.
  • Leverage authoring tools (Articulate 360, Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.) to deliver professional and accessible content.

HCM & Release Enablement

  • Review HCM release notes (Workday, UKG, etc.) to identify training impacts and translate them into learner-friendly content.
  • Partner with HRIS/configuration teams to capture system workflows and translate them into user-focused learning experiences.
  • Design role-based scenarios and simulations to ensure end-users can confidently perform tasks in new or updated systems.

Collaboration & Partnership

  • Work with the Change Enablement Lead to align learning objectives with project and release adoption goals.
  • Partner with the Communications Team to embed training highlights into enterprise-wide release and project communications.
  • Collaborate with the Training & Adoption Coordinator to plan training delivery, adoption tracking, and feedback collection.
  • Engage with stakeholders (HR partners, managers, IT project leads) to validate learning needs and effectiveness.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Establish metrics to evaluate training effectiveness (completion rates, knowledge assessments, adoption metrics).
  • Continuously update and refine training based on learner feedback, adoption outcomes, and system release changes.
  • Stay current with emerging instructional design trends, technologies, and best practices in HR tech learning.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of instructional design methods, adult learning theory, and blended learning approaches.
  • Proficiency with eLearning and content creation tools (Articulate 360, Captivate, Camtasia, Vyond, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar).
  • Experience designing mobile-first and micro-learning experiences.
  • Familiarity with HCM platforms (Workday) and ability to interpret system release notes.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work cross-functionally with HR, IT, and Communications.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills with a focus on clarity and simplicity.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to measure learning effectiveness and adoption outcomes.
  • Creative, flexible, and able to adapt quickly to evolving project and release timelines.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Learning & Development, Education Technology, HR, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3–5 years of experience in instructional design, learning experience design, or training development.
  • Experience supporting technology change enablement, HR technology projects, or system release cycles highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG/508 compliance).
  • Bonus: Experience with AI-powered learning tools, adaptive learning, or gamification.
