JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State’s Timothy J. Piazza Center for Fraternity and Sorority Research invites applications for an exciting opportunity in an applied research study for hazing prevention. The part time/hourly Program Coordinator (PC) will help manage aspects of the What Works hazing prevention and hazardous drinking study and Community of Practice (CoP).  

The part-time Program Coordinator (PC), in collaboration with Research Project Manager, scholars, and study partners, assists in planning, managing, and executing project details for the study. Specifically, the position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and facilitating Community of Practice Meetings for logistics and professional development. Position is responsible for key deadlines and study deliverables. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Attention to detail with excellent organizational skills, including proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, determine priorities, and meet deadlines. 
  • Knowledge of behavior change theories and evidence-informed prevention strategies for hazing, substance misuse, and violence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to foster mutually beneficial stakeholder relationships (e.g., national research/prevention center staff, CoP member institutions, campus fraternity and sorority life and prevention staff). 
  • Personal characteristics include innovation, initiative, creativity, the ability to work with diverse groups of people, being a self-starter who can thrive in an environment that is developing, growing, and changing and a passion for excellence. 
  • Strong oral, digital and written communication skills, including confident group facilitation skills.
  • Experience developing and marketing in-person and virtual events.
  • Experience with assessment and data-driven decision-making. 
  • Working and operational knowledge of MS Office, the internet, and social media.

Qualifications 

Candidates must have the following required knowledge areas, skills, and abilities: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree or equivalent in Counseling, Health Promotion, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other discipline. Relevant student experience may be considered. 
  • Strong commitment to a vision for fraternities and sororities being safe, successful and sustainable. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and belonging. 
  • Demonstrated experience in program and event planning, peer education, evidence-informed substance misuse and hazing prevention, and behavior change theory.
  • Understanding of the unique needs and support demands of members of IFC, MGC, NALFO, NAPA, NMGC, NPHC, and PHC fraternity and sorority members.
  • Strong oral, digital and written communication skills. 

Preferred Education and Experience 

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree or equivalent in Counseling, Health Promotion, Higher Education, Student Affairs Administration, or other related field preferred.
