Salary Information Department Summary UNT Physics offers B.S., B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. It also offers a BS/MS accelerated program for students to obtain both B.S. and M.S. degrees in 5 years. In addition to general physics, its undergraduate program offers Engineering Physics, Computational Physics, and Astronomy concentrations. UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba. Position Summary The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas invites applications from outstanding candidates for a Lecturer who will serve in a continuing, full-time position that can start as early as January 2024. The Lecturer position is an important, pedagogically oriented element of the department and plays a key role in supporting course that serve physics majors as well as courses serving other STEM and non-science majors. We seek strong, student-focused candidates with interactive and engaged teaching methodology who reflect on and continually hone their teaching practices. A commitment to cultivating a classroom and department in which all students can thrive is essential. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience and skill. The Lecturer will be expected to provide engaging and interactive instruction for three to four course sections per semester. These courses include primarily introductory astronomy, and may include introductory physics (calculus-based or algebra-based), science and technology of sound, as well as core undergraduate physics courses. The Lecturer will also be expected to manage and coordinate the introductory astronomy courses, particularly in terms of keeping the contents of their online sections current while assuring their compliance with university requirements. Lecturers in the Department of Physics have the opportunity to contribute to important activities including, but not limited to 1) Training graduate or undergraduate teaching assistants, 2) Integrating computational modeling into introductory courses, 3) Mentoring undergraduate research projects, 4) Curriculum development for lecture, recitation, or laboratory instruction, 5) Outreach and/or student recruitment, and 6) Undergraduate advising. Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's of Science in Astronomy, Physics, or Physics Education
  • Experience teaching courses in astronomy and/or physics
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Astronomy, Physics, or Physics Education
  • Demonstrated interactive and engaged teaching
