Job title: Student Support Specialist - Augusta or Bangor Campus Company: University of Maine System Job description: Statement of Job: The Student Success Team at the University of Maine at Augusta is growing Come join our team as a Student Support Specialist The Student Support Specialist is part of a multidisciplinary, student success team that implements effective systems, programs, and services to reduce barriers and enhance the learning experiences, persistence, and success of UMA students. The efforts of the Student Support Specialist support the retention of UMA students and are grounded in best practices in assisting vulnerable student populations with college persistence, principles of adult learning, and the unique characteristics of UMA's student population. We are hiring two Student Support Specialists. One position will will specialize as an Academic Success Coordinator and the other will specialize as a Tutoring Coordinator. If you have a preference for one primary assignment or the other, you may indicate which assignment appeals to you more in your cover letter.
  • The Academic Success Coordinator will provide individualized support services including assessment of needs and academic success-related coaching, as well as the development of resources to enhance learning. A full job description can be found

There is flexibility for these positions to be either located on the Augusta or Bangor campus. Salary: The hiring salary range for these full-time positions is $42,000 to $45,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., evenings and weekends as necessary. Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated record-keeping and organizational skills
  • Excellent, oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Computer literacy and ability to navigate student case-related software systems
  • Commitment to student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Awareness of the principles of effective teaching practices, especially in distance modalities
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive and trauma-informed teaching practices
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience
  • Three to five years of experience working in an educational environment or other human services-related field
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree and/or coursework in a related field such as Education, Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, TESOL
  • Experience working with adult learners, English learners, individuals with disabilities, students who are at risk, and/or individuals coming from minoritized backgrounds
  • Experience working in higher education
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams/groups within the workplace
