Apply U.S. Patent Attorney / Junior Patent Associate (Remote) Remote Worker - N/A Apply Description

Kennedy Lenart IP LLP is seeking a Junior Patent Associate (1–3 years preferred) with a strong technical background in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline to join our growing intellectual property practice.

This is not a “plug-and-play” role. It is an opportunity to build a career intentionally.

If you’re looking to move beyond rigid law firm structures, take ownership of your work, and grow alongside a firm that is actively shaping how technology and AI integrate into legal practice, this role is designed for you.

We invest in our attorneys because their development drives the firm’s success. You will build your skills through hands-on experience, mentorship, and direct client engagement, with the expectation that you grow into a highly effective and confident practitioner.

You do not need to check every box to be a strong candidate. If you believe you have the potential to excel in this environment, we want to hear from you.

Requirements

What You’ll Do

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in electrical engineering, computing, and related technologies
  • Work directly with clients on invention disclosures, drafting strategy, and prosecution decisions
  • Develop practical patent strategies and contribute to portfolio development
  • Interpret and apply patent laws, USPTO guidance, and evolving best practices
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on quality control and workflow improvement
  • Manage deadlines and contribute to efficient docket execution

What We’re Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field
  • Registration to practice before the USPTO (attorney or agent)
  • Experience drafting and/or prosecuting patent applications

Preferred Experience

  • 1–3 years of experience drafting and/or prosecuting patent applications
  • Experience with U.S. patent applications in electrical engineering, computing, or related subject matter
  • Familiarity with technologies such as analog circuitry, digital logic, processor architectures, semiconductor design, power electronics, or embedded systems

Core Traits

  • Strong legal writing and analytical ability
  • High attention to detail with sound practical judgment
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working in a fully remote environment
  • Ability to manage deadlines and balance multiple matters
  • Desire to take ownership of your work and continuously improve

Why This Role Is Different

We are building a different kind of firm. This role is a fit if you want to:

  • Move beyond lockstep compensation and have your earnings reflect your actual contributions and production
  • Work in a model that is not driven by traditional billable hour requirements or rigid annual billing targets
  • Work at the edge of change, helping shape how AI and modern tools transform patent practice
  • Grow in an environment where investment in your development is viewed as an investment in the firm’s long-term success

We are not looking to fill a seat. We are looking for an attorney who wants to take ownership of their work and play a meaningful role in building and shaping the firm.

Benefits

  • Competitive, flexible compensation structures aligned with production
  • Reimbursement for bar dues and CLE expenses
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with firm contributions
  • Generous paid time off and paid parental leave
  • Fifteen (15) holidays annually
  • Technology support and internet stipend for remote work

Kennedy Lenart IP LLP is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other legally protected characteristics.
