AI Data Science Intern

The AI Data Science Intern supports Assurant’s AI and data teams by assisting in the design, development, and testing of models that solve real business problems. You’ll gain hands on experience working with large datasets, experimenting with algorithms, and contributing to AI solutions used across the company. This is a great opportunity for students who are curious, analytical, and excited about applying AI to real-world challenges. 

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

Business Alignment & Problem Scoping 

• Help translate business questions into clear AI or data science problems. 

• Support defining success metrics and understanding model use cases. 

Modeling, Algorithms & Experimentation 

• Assist in building machine learning and optimization models. 

• Run experiments, evaluate model performance, and identify areas for improvement. 

• Explore and test new AI techniques (e.g., NLP, computer vision, generative models). 

Data Analysis & Large-Scale Computing 

• Work with large datasets to uncover patterns and insights. 

• Help run statistical tests, model validations, and performance tuning. 

• Learn how models are scaled for real-time or high volume environments. 

Research & Innovation 

• Stay up to date with AI trends and bring ideas to the team. 

• Prototype new methods or tools that could improve model accuracy, speed, or usability. 

Collaboration & Integration 

• Partner with data scientists, engineers, and product teams. 

• Contribute to model handoff processes, documentation, and deployment readiness. 

Communication & Documentation 

• Create clear summaries, visualizations, and presentations of your work. 

• Document experiments, findings, and model behavior for team knowledge sharing. 

What are the requirements needed for this position?

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Math, Engineering, or related fields. 

• Experience with Python and common ML libraries (e.g., scikitlearn, PyTorch, TensorFlow). 

• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities. 

• Interest in AI/ML techniques and how they apply to real world business needs. 

• Ability to explain technical ideas in a clear, simple way. 

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

• Exposure to deep learning, optimization, or statistical modeling. 

• Experience with large datasets or distributed computing tools (e.g., Spark, Kafka). 

• Familiarity with GPU-based computing or cloud environments. 

• Interest in areas such as generative AI, recommendation systems, NLP, or computer vision. 

Pay Range:

Any posted pay range considers a wide range of compensation factors, including candidate background, experience and work location, while also allowing for salary growth within the position.
