Job description: Job Description Summary The Senior Mechanical Engineer works within the Gen IV Advanced Design & Development group of the GE Hitachi Engineering organization. The AD&D team supports the development of advanced nuclear applications through technical leadership on early phase projects and delivering high caliber analysis of complex, first-of-a-kind technologies. AD&D is an interdisciplinary group of problem-solvers with high aptitude and flexibility. This role specifically involves the design and analysis of mechanicals systems. The senior engineer should be a self-starter, have subject matter expertise, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and be capable of mentoring engineering trainees.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer possess knowledge of all stages of the design process and managers all handoffs to deliver high quality designs.
- Acts as the responsible engineer and subject matter expert for first-of-a-kind designs
- Creates design deliverables from conceptual requirements to detailed drawings at different phases of the project.
- Represents GEH Engineering in customer meetings and works to maintain the design schedule
- Owns and executes the design process, applies engineering principles, and works with multiple disciplines to produce designs in compliance with all specifications, procedures, and regulations.
- Performs system design activities including system design specifications, piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs), logic diagrams, equipment sizing, and FMEA evaluations, and conducts or delegates relevant mechanical analysis.
- Generates design and/or testing requirements and creates high quality technical reports and diagrams for review by both customers and regulators.
- Delegates work to support teams and serves as a mentor as required to develop and maintain technical talent
- Devises innovative solutions and performs confirmatory analyses to support business initiatives and develop new products.
- Performs or delegates relevant mechanical analysis
- Intentionally works to share subject matter expertise, enforces procedures, and maintains technical rigor while maintaining a questioning attitude.
- Minimum Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, engineering mechanics, or a closely related field
- Minimum of 10 years of combined experience in mechanical systems engineering, mechanical design, and mechanical analysis
- Masters Degree in a relevant technical discipline
- Prior experience in both systems engineering and component design.
- Knowledge of mechanical analysis stress analysis, heat transfer, and vibrations.
- Expertise in mechanical design including failure modes, GD&T and drafting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead initiatives in a team environment.
- A self-starter willing to take initiative and own design and development of new products.
