The City of La Habra is conducting a recruitment for part-time and/or substitute positions of Teacher for the Child Development Division, School-Age and Pre-School Programs. The teaching positions, depending on assignment, may be working with school age or preschool age children for up to 8 hours/day, any day of the week, not to exceed to 20 hours per week. These positions are authorized under State rules and funds, are grant-funded for specific programs, and may be of limited-term (subject to continuation of grant).

ABOUT THE DIVISION:
We believe that each child should receive individual attention, encouragement, support and guidance. A variety of experiences for the development of the child's fullest potential are provided. This program has a strong commitment to the community. This involvement has been at the core of the development of many social service programs offered through this agency. Two sessions are offered for 3 1/2 hours each. Some full-day spaces are available for families who meet eligibility requirements. We strive to serve all children and constantly seek ways to accommodate the unique needs of children with disabilities.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
A staff person who instructs children in activities designed to promote social/emotional, physical health and safety, and cognitive growth. Under the direction of the Lead Teacher and/or Program Specialist, to prepare and teach lessons to school age or preschool age children; assist the Lead Teacher and/or Program Specialists in planning programs and activities; and oversees assistants and volunteers in the classroom.
Examples of Duties
(Duties may include, but are not limited to the following):
- Plans and implements lesson plans for school age or preschool-age children.
- Oversees classroom and playground activities.
- Teaches, supervises, and instructs children.
- Oversees staff and volunteers.
- Plans and implements parent involvement activities.
- Performs related duties as required.
- Child-development psychology and behavior theories and related conceptual learning and emotional stages.
- Physical development stages in the areas of small and large muscle coordination and nutritional requirements of age groups.
- Art, crafts, music, science, and concepts such as color, geometric shapes for teaching on school age level.
- Supervisory techniques.
- Communicate effectively with children and their parents in teaching, informing, and interacting situations.
- Plan a meal program that meets nutritional requirements of pupils.
- Observe and recognize behaviors or conditions in children that may indicate special attention or referral.
- Demonstrate art, crafts, music, and physical activities at the level of the pupil.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others and possess excellent customer service skills.
- Successful Completion of a criminal history background check.
- Obtain and maintain all certifications and educational requirements as established by state and federal guidelines. Including:
- CPR/First Aid certificate for infants and children.
- TB test; proof of current Influenza, Pertussis and MMR vaccination.
