Principal Cloud Architect – DevIQ (Remote)

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Wayne, United States of America | Full time | Home-based | R1496137 Within IQVIA’s AI and Technology Solutions (ATS) organization, the Architecture & Standards group defines and evolves “the IQVIA way” of building technology. Our mission is to improve efficiency, speed, quality, interoperability, and security across IQVIA by establishing clear architectural standards, reference architectures, and reusable platforms that enable teams to deliver safely and consistently at scale. The Platform Architecture and Engineering organization sits within Architecture & Standards and is responsible for shaping the architectural foundations and engineering practices behind IQVIA’s internal platforms, including DevIQ, our developer productivity and platform engineering ecosystem. Our vision is to foster a developer-first culture that promotes collaboration across IQVIA’s federated engineering ecosystem while balancing autonomy with strong architectural guardrails. The Platform Architecture and Engineering team is composed of senior, hands-on architects and engineers with deep expertise in cloud, platform, and distributed systems architecture. The team:

  • Defines and maintains platform and cloud architecture standards
  • Designs and evolves reference architectures, paved roads, and golden paths
  • Builds reference implementations that demonstrate best practices at scale
  • Provides architectural guidance through the Technical Design Committee (TDC) process
  • Leads architecture and platform guilds, enabling communities of practice across IQVIA

This role is a senior individual contributor position with broad influence across ATS, platform engineering teams, and federated delivery organizations. The Principal Cloud Architect will play a critical role in the evolution of DevIQ, IQVIA’s developer productivity and platform engineering ecosystem. In this role, you will shape IQVIA’s cloud and platform architecture strategy across multi-cloud and hybrid environments, define opinionated yet flexible paved roads for engineering teams, and ensure DevIQ enables consistent, secure, and scalable delivery of APIs, shared services, data access, and AI/agentic workloads. You will operate at the intersection of cloud architecture, platform engineering, developer experience, and governance, acting as a thought leader, standard-setter, and hands-on architect. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong architectural judgment, and the ability to influence at scale across a large, federated organization. Essential Functions: Platform & Cloud Architecture Standards

  • Define, author, and maintain cloud and platform architecture standards, patterns, and best practices for cloud-native and hybrid workloads across ATS.
  • Own and evolve reference architectures, paved roads, and golden paths aligned to DevIQ capabilities (APIs, shared services, infrastructure services, AI/LLM platforms, and agentic workflows).
  • Ensure architectural guidance balances developer autonomy, security, compliance, reliability, and cost efficiency.

DevIQ Platform Strategy & Enablement

  • Serve as a senior architectural leader for DevIQ, shaping how cloud services, shared infrastructure, and platform capabilities are designed and exposed to developers.
  • Partner closely with platform engineering teams to ensure DevIQ delivers a high-quality, self-service developer experience through automation and opinionated defaults.
  • Influence the roadmap for internal developer portal integrations, templates, and reusable platform components.

Cloud Strategy & Governance

  • Define and evolve IQVIA’s multi-cloud and hybrid cloud strategy within ATS, ensuring alignment with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and platform objectives.
  • Establish and document the end-to-end lifecycle of cloud governance, including architectural guardrails, policy enforcement, testing, and compliance validation.
  • Guide teams in adopting cloud services safely, consistently, and efficiently.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead the Cloud Architecture Guild, fostering communities of practice across ATS and federated engineering teams.
  • Provide architectural leadership during design reviews, helping teams align solutions with platform standards while meeting delivery objectives.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to engineering, security, DevOps, data, and AI platform teams.

Innovation & Thought Leadership

  • Stay current with trends in cloud services, platform engineering, and AI infrastructure, evaluating new capabilities for enterprise adoption.
  • Provide clear recommendations on when and how to adopt emerging services, including managed platforms, serverless, containers, and AI/ML infrastructure.
  • Drive architectural direction through clear standards, reference implementations, and pragmatic guidance.

Security, Reliability & Observability

  • Ensure platform and cloud architectures embed security-by-design, including IAM, network segmentation, secrets management, and data protection.
  • Promote best practices for resilience, scalability, cost optimization, and observability as first-class architectural concerns.
  • Partner with security and SRE teams to align architectural standards with operational realities.

Mentorship & Influence

  • Provide technical mentorship to architects and senior engineers across ATS.
  • Elevate platform and cloud architectural maturity through coaching, documentation, and exemplar implementations.
  • Lead by influence, building trust and driving adoption through clarity and demonstrated value.

Qualifications: Required

  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and architecture, including large-scale distributed systems.
  • Proven experience as a Cloud Architect in enterprise environments.
  • Deep hands-on experience with AWS and Azure, including multi-account, enterprise-scale deployments.
  • Strong expertise in infrastructure as code (Terraform, Pulumi, AWS CDK, or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience authoring architecture standards, reference architectures, and best-practice guidance.
  • Broad knowledge of cloud services across compute, networking, IAM, storage, data, observability, and configuration management.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java).
  • Strong understanding of DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience designing or supporting AI/ML and LLM-based workloads in the cloud.

Preferred

  • Experience with internal developer platforms.
  • Familiarity with platform engineering concepts (paved roads, golden paths, product-oriented platforms).
  • Experience operating in regulated or data-sensitive environments.

Skills:

  • Exceptional architectural judgment and problem-solving ability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to influence across teams without direct authority.
  • Deep commitment to security, compliance, and operational excellence.

Additional Attributes:

  • Comfortable operating in a large, federated engineering organization.
  • Pragmatic, enablement-focused mindset.
  • Passion for developer experience, automation, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong curiosity for emerging technologies, particularly in cloud and AI platforms.
