About the Role

We are seeking experienced Distributed Systems Engineers to help develop and enhance our infrastructure as we pursue our ambitious goal of reaching 500 million users worldwide. As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, you will be responsible for designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that are scalable, reliable, and highly available. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, product managers, and technical program managers, to drive business outcomes and deliver high-quality solutions.

Focus Areas in Data Infrastructure Teams

Our data infrastructure teams are focused on several key areas, including:

• Database Access Platform: Building and operating a flexible query gateway that facilitates data reflections to work at sub-millisecond latencies while allowing arenaflex microservices to more easily store, consume, and manage their data.
• Data Platform Infrastructure: Developing a shared framework and tooling that enables arenaflex to rapidly innovate on providing cutting-edge data and analytics systems to the rest of the organization without building customized platforms for each new system.
• Big Data Compute: Providing the cloud-native platform for distributed data processing at arenaflex, including support for Spark, ETL data into the Petabytes-scale data warehouse, and access to that data using Spark and Voila/TrinoDB.
• Big Data Orchestration: Offering the platform for planning, organizing, and executing big data jobs and workflows in a self-serve way, including basic services that have all ETL and ML responsibilities running on Big Data Systems at arenaflex.

Key Responsibilities

As a Distributed Systems Engineer at arenaflex, your key responsibilities will include:

• Designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems that are scalable, reliable, and highly available
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive business outcomes and deliver high-quality solutions
• Architecting and building a robust, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure
• Driving cross-functional initiatives and working closely with engineers, product managers, and technical program managers across teams
• Sharing our experiences with the open-source communities and contributing to arenaflex OSS

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• 2+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems features or applications
• Experience with the design and development of RESTful web services
• Knowledge of Java or other object-oriented programming languages
• Experience building and operating scalable, fault-tolerant, distributed systems
• A BS in Computer Science or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience with cloud-native technologies and distributed data processing
• Knowledge of Spark, Presto/Trino, Druid, Iceberg, and distributed database systems
• Experience with event-driven and smart scheduling
• Strong programming and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
