Our Minnesota Reading Corps program is a key initiative that aims to improve literacy rates among young students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Job Description

As a Minnesota Reading Corps Literacy Tutor, you will play a vital role in helping students build their reading skills and confidence. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Working one-on-one with students in Kindergarten through Grade 3, providing personalized support and guidance to help them develop essential reading skills
  • Using research-based literacy interventions to help students build their reading skills and confidence
  • Collaborating with teachers and other educational professionals to ensure a comprehensive and supportive learning environment
  • Participating in comprehensive training and online modules to develop your skills and knowledge in literacy strategies and best practices
  • Reporting directly to the Internal Coach/Site Supervisor and Regional Program Manager to ensure seamless communication and coordination

Key Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong interest in education and literacy
  • Experience working with children, preferably as a literacy tutor
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently
  • Ability to make a commitment to complete a year of service
  • Prefer college coursework, college degree, or equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not required, the following qualifications and skills are highly desirable:

  • College coursework or degree in education, literacy, or a related field
  • Experience working in a school or educational setting
  • Familiarity with research-based literacy interventions and best practices
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Training and Support

As a Minnesota Reading Corps Tutor, you will receive comprehensive training and support to ensure your success in this role. This will include:

  • Two weeks of intensive training and online modules to develop your skills and knowledge in literacy strategies and best practices
  • Ongoing coaching and support from the Internal Coach/Site Supervisor and Regional Program Manager
  • Access to a range of resources and materials to support your work with students
