Software Engineer I, Core Data
Etsy is the global marketplace for unique and creative goods, and they are seeking a Software Engineer I to join their Core Data team. The role involves building systems and infrastructure for data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with product engineering teams to support data-driven decision-making.
Responsibilities
- You will work with your team to improve our pipeline that helps us understand how buyers arrived at Etsy and their experience on the site and app
- You will help build and maintain streaming datasets that power our search, ads, and recommendation systems
- You will support evolving our bot filtering rules to ensure the quality of our data
- You will partner with product engineering teams to ensure that data collected is of high quality and consistent across all of our platforms
- You will help maintain and update core datasets that are reusable and cover the needs of our analytics, product, and engineering partners

Skills
- Familiarity with integrating low-latency and batch processing
- Experience working with event-based data systems
- Experience with stream processing systems like Kafka Streams, Spark, or Dataflow
- Ability to write SQL queries for data exploration and analysis
- Effective communication skills with people as much as writing code
- Generosity with time and experience, able to mentor and learn from other engineers
- Ability to tackle unconstrained problems and know when to seek help
- Flexibility with languages and tools, willing to learn whatever is necessary to get the job done
- Experience with Spark, Kafka, Airflow, Looker, Dataproc, and BigQuery
