Senior Financial Crimes Specialist
About the position Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Financial Crimes Specialist in Financial Crimes Risk Management as part of Independent Risk Management. In this role, you will lead or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within functional area and contribute to large-scale planning related to functional area deliverables. You will investigate, research, examine, and report complex financial crimes transactions, policy violations and suspicious situations with high levels of risk. Additionally, you will perform risk evaluation and modeling to provide input and recommendations for financial crimes strategies and models, evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes and internal controls, and conduct data and onsite reviews to determine risk levels and recommend resulting fraud prevention strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead or participate in moderately complex initiatives and deliverables within functional area.
- Investigate, research, examine, and report complex financial crimes transactions, policy violations and suspicious situations with high levels of risk.
- Perform risk evaluation and modeling to provide input and recommendations for financial crimes strategies and models.
- Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of policies, procedures, processes and internal controls.
- Conduct data and onsite reviews, review findings, determine risk level and recommend resulting fraud prevention strategies.
- Perform investigative research, root cause assessment and consulting regarding highly complex financial crimes transactions.
- Perform detailed examination to detect transactional and relationship patterns, trends, anomalies and schemes across multiple businesses or products.
- Act as an escalation point for more complex cases.
- Resolve moderately complex issues and lead a team to meet deliverables.
- Partner closely with leadership to develop strategies to minimize financial crime portfolio risk.
- Provide leadership within the team.
- Serve as a liaison and represent the organization in handling court appearances, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues and mid-level managers to resolve issues and achieve goals.
- Lead projects, teams or serve as a mentor for less experienced staff.
- Develop and deliver a wide range of training for individuals involved in issue detection.
- Interact internally and externally to conduct investigations or to address risk management.
Requirements
- 4+ years of Financial Crimes, Operational Risk, Fraud, Sanctions, Anti-Bribery, Corruption experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
Nice-to-haves
- Working knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) or Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) laws and/or regulations.
- Direct work experience in one or more of the following: Third Party Payment Processor (TPP), Money Service Business (MSB), Marketplace Lending/Crowdfunding, or Casino business models.
- Previous experience with Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) and customized EDD.
- Experience in conducting investigative research, root cause analysis and consulting on transactions.
- Ability to coordinate completion of multiple tasks and meet aggressive time frames.
- Intermediate Microsoft Office product skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of process flow or procedure writing.
- Strong, clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
- Experience in reviewing and analyzing findings to determine level of risk.
- Experience in preparing appropriate documentation and reporting to management.
- Experience in informing peers, line of business and other partners on findings.
- Experience in assisting with writing corrective action plans.
