Freelance Marketing Strategist for Clothing Marketplace Relaunch

About Us

We are an Australian secondhand fashion startup preparing to relaunch as a curated online marketplace for quality pre-owned fashion. We’re transitioning from a consignment-style model to a marketplace model, and we’re now building the strategy, systems, and growth engine that will support the successful launch of this next chapter. We’re looking for an experienced Marketing Strategist who can partner closely with the founder to lead our relaunch planning, seller acquisition framework, and early growth direction. Role Overview: This role is ideal for someone who enjoys shaping strategy and contributing hands-on when needed in a fast-moving startup. You will work closely with the founder to: - Build the end-to-end marketplace relaunch plan - Develop the seller acquisition & onboarding system (outreach, funnels, scripts) - Lead the strategic direction for TikTok and Instagram - Provide scripts/briefs for content creators and guide the organic content plan - Collaborate with our VA, creators, and external dev agency - Shape brand positioning, messaging, and early audience strategy - Identify growth opportunities, experiment, and iterate quickly - Set up light weekly reporting to keep the team aligned While the role’s foundation is strategy, systems, and direction, we value people who don’t mind rolling up their sleeves when needed - typical of an early-stage startup where everyone collaborates to move the launch forward. Key Responsibilities 1. Marketplace Relaunch Strategy - Define positioning, value prop, and key messaging - Build a multi-phase relaunch plan across social, email, community, and creators - Identify gaps or opportunities across the website and user journey - Identify improvements across the website and onboarding experience and communicate recommendations to our freelance Shopify developers or marketplace tech partners. 2. Seller Acquisition & Onboarding A central part of this role. You will: - Create outreach frameworks, scripts, and sequences - Direct our VA on daily outreach and follow-ups - Build the seller onboarding playbook (steps, FAQs, benefits, templates) - Map the seller funnel from application → approval → onboarding → listing - Track funnel metrics and report weekly - Experiment with incentives, messaging, and acquisition angles This area is currently a clean slate - you’ll help build the system from the ground up. 3. Organic Social & Content Strategy (You direct; others execute, with flexibility for hands-on help if needed.) You will: - Shape the multi-account TikTok + Instagram strategy - Create scripts, angles, hooks, and briefs for our content creators - Identify trends and content opportunities aligned with our brand - Guide content pillars tied to marketplace growth (e.g., seller spotlights, themed drops, thrifting culture) - Ensure consistency across brand voice and messaging 4. Influencer & Community Growth - Identify creators who align with resale culture - Explore early partnerships or UGC-style collaborations - Build lightweight incentive models (e.g., store credit campaigns, early access) - Contribute to building a small but engaged community around the relaunch 5. Reporting & Iteration - Build a simple weekly dashboard (traffic, funnel, socials, insights) - Recommend adjustments to strategy based on performance - Keep the founder aligned on what’s working and what to prioritise next Who We’re Looking For - Experience in ecommerce, marketplaces, growth marketing, or digital strategy - Skilled at building systems, funnels, and GTM plans - Strong communicator who can collaborate with founders, creators, VAs, and developers - Comfortable with both high-level thinking and occasional hands-on execution - Creative yet analytical; able to turn insights into action - Proactive, resourceful, and thrives in early-stage environments - Enjoys testing ideas, learning fast, and adapting quickly - Excited about fashion, resale, sustainability, or youth culture (nice to have) Bonus skills (not required): - TikTok culture fluency - Shopify or Klaviyo familiarity - Experience working with creators or influencer-led brands Engagement Details - Freelance - 10–20 hours per month - Flexible, async-friendly - Weekly or bi-weekly strategy check-ins - Long-term opportunity as the marketplace grows
