Key Responsibilities
The following are the primary responsibilities of the Customer Service Representative role:
- Issue, reissue, and discount traveler tickets
- Book, ticket, and confirm flight reservations
- Rebook travelers on oversold flights and during irregular operations
- Perform traveler registration and front seat tasks (excluding curbside), resolve oversold seat tasks, and issue upgrades
- Issue vouchers and coordinate with vendors for traveler lodging facilities, meals, and transportation; arrange refuel and revive
- Perform traveler loading, including ticket lift and ticket lift/confirmation
- Operate door reader/scanner and related duties, including pre-boarding, observing/checking carry-on items, and departure line standards
- Operate jetways/bridges for the purpose of boarding and deplaning travelers
- Make boarding and departure gate announcements
- Convey domestic/international flight records
- Perform traveler service flight close-out procedures
- Accept, check, and label travelers' items at destination points, full-service ticket counters, and five-star ticket counters
- Maintain a schedule of the flight loading process
- Perform customer service hands-on training
- Process and complete credit card transactions at stands in the ticket counter area and activation stations
- Assist travelers with self-service booth registration and stand staff handling at ticket counters
- Manage lines at ticket counter stands and ticket counters
- Clear/confirm international reports at booth in the ticket counter area and activation stations
- Accept and activate travelers' self-labeled bags at activation stations
- Assist customers requiring special assistance or in-station; assist boarding, deplaning, and moving non-ambulatory travelers, special assistance travelers, and unaccompanied minors
- Perform customer service work related to handling domestic flights and contractor/ground handling arrangements or agreements
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance on site, including fulfilling any required overtime requirements
- Answer and assist during security and emergency situations
- Provide connecting traveler door information
- Provide quality customer service in a professional manner and in accordance with American's standards
What You'll Need for Success
To excel in this role, you'll need:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Bilingual language skills may be required in certain areas
- A valid, substantial driver's license as required by local authorities
- Must meet FAA criminal record checks to qualify for unescorted access badges to airport security identification display areas (SIDA), if applicable
- Must be able to obtain suitable airport power or potentially US Customs security identification, if necessary
- Completion of a pre-employment drug screen, thorough background check, or fingerprinting to meet organization and security requirements
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications will make you an even stronger candidate:
- Training and experience in a customer service environment
- Working knowledge of Sabre or other Traveler Service Systems
- Past experience in a high-speed environment
