POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT Director of Marketing & Communication Exempt Salary range: $110,000 - $130,000 The United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), based in Palm Springs, is seeking a Director of Marketing & Communication. Reporting to the Chief Education and Programs Officer, the Director of Marketing and Communication is responsible for the marketing, advertising, communications strategies, tools, and implementation that establish the USCAP brand and awareness within the medical field broadly and pathology field specifically. The Director of Marketing role supports the growth in membership, conference and meeting attendance, and other revenue-generating and mission driven activities of USCAP. The Director of Marketing and Communication leads Academy social media, develops marketing strategies, manages the production flow and performance of vendor contracts, creates eblasts, and other various media, and works with other departments to distribute communications to USCAP members and other stakeholders. About USCAP USCAP is a dynamic and innovative medical association dedicated to servicing pathologists in the United States and Canada. Pathologists are both medical doctors as well as scientific researchers who study and develop knowledge on all forms of human disease including cancer, infectious and hereditary diseases. USCAP is a thriving non-profit 501(c)(3) association with more than 8000 members that focuses strictly on its educational mandate. USCAP’s state of the art headquarters and interactive conference center are located in downtown Palm Springs, CA – a beautiful oasis in the warm deserts of Southern California. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Oversees and/or implements the creation, editing, proofreading, production and fabrication of all USCAP content for marketing and advertising purposes across all platforms. Develops, implements, and manages the budget for marketing. Develops and oversees the creative and content calendar. Develops creative concepts and content for all marketing and communications collateral with input from departments. Ensures high quality and accuracy in design and information across all platforms. Maintains the relevancy and inventory of digital and print assets, including collateral for events, USCAP templates, and other designed materials, and ensures timely and high-quality production of these assets. Maintains the USCAP brand through a style guide and monitors organizational fidelity with brand guidelines. Monitors the USCAP website for content accuracy and timeliness and makes suggestions for navigation and brand improvements. Manages content and creative vendor relationships, including copywriters, designers, and image and video production vendors. Maintains inventory of and ordering signage for Annual Meeting. Oversees the cultivation of media relationships; develops newsworthy stories, and prepares press releases for media placement to ensure earned media is appropriately elevated and distributed. Provides leadership and the ability to influence at all levels within the organization and to function as an effective change agent in a continuous quality improvement environment. Completes corporate training on a timely basis. Provides and models excellent customer service, following up on complaints, questions, and concerns; responds to internal/external customer needs in a friendly, timely and efficient manner. Fosters an inclusive environment marked by personal visibility, open communication, relationship building, teamwork, and empowerment. Oversees and complies with all established safe work practices and attends to all safety-related training provided or made available by USCAP. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience Associate/BA/BS in marketing, graphic design, design, or relevant field. 5 years of progressively responsible experience working with marketing and communications; managing creative vendor relationships. Preferred experience working in medical education or with non-profit marketing and communications. Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities Thinks strategically to connect marketing and communications activities to the larger USCAP goals and prioritizes accordingly. Collaborative across departments, and highly flexible and receptive to diverse perspectives and feedback. Able to synthesize diverse perspectives into a clear point of view about USCAP’s marketing and communications strategy; implements that strategy assertively; and uses quantitative and qualitative data to continuously assess and refine the strategy. Effective storyteller producing content that is honest, accurate, and represents diversity, equity and inclusion in all its forms. Highly detail-oriented; spots copy and design errors. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent presentation skills. Proficient and knowledgeable with technological tools like Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Outlook, website and graphic design software, and/or content management systems (CMS) Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks, exercise sound judgment, and use discretion and initiative in performing complex work. Demonstrated leadership approach that includes a high level of integrity, mutual respect, accountability, and collaboration. Excellent organizational and leadership skills. Previous experience with HTML, Feathr, and MailChimp preferred. The chosen candidate will be expected to travel to USCAP meetings and events as needed; be able to work a varied schedule depending on the needs of the organization, and may include occasional evenings, weekends and early mornings. References and a background check are required for final candidates. This is an exempt position. Ideal candidate may work out of the Palm Springs office. A hybrid schedule or fully remote work from a location within the United States will be considered. No relocation assistance is offered for this position. Salary Range: $$110,000- $130,000 annually commensurate with experience and qualifications. USCAP offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401K match, HRA and FSA.
