Experienced Full-Time Contract Behavior Aide – California Based Role for Special Education Students

As a Behavior Aide, you will play a vital role in implementing behavior intervention plans, providing one-on-one support, and helping students develop essential social skills and coping strategies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Behavior Aide, you will be responsible for:

  • Implementing behavior intervention plans (BIPs) for students with behavioral challenges, in collaboration with teachers, special education staff, and families.
  • Providing one-on-one support to students during classroom activities, ensuring a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Helping students develop appropriate social skills and coping strategies, such as communication, problem-solving, and self-regulation.
  • Monitoring student progress and collaborating with teachers, special education staff, and families to adjust strategies as needed.
  • Supporting students with special needs in navigating school routines, including transitioning between activities and classes.
  • Utilizing de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement to manage challenging behaviors.
  • Providing crisis intervention if necessary, ensuring the safety and well-being of the student and others.
  • Maintaining detailed documentation of student behavior, interventions, and progress.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • CPR/First Aid certification, which is mandatory.
  • Experience working with special education students, especially those with behavioral needs, is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior management strategies and intervention plans, including Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, special education staff, and families.
  • Familiarity with local and state regulations related to special education services, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as special education, psychology, or social work.
  • Experience working in a school-based setting, particularly with students with behavioral needs.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, such as Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) or Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI).
  • Familiarity with electronic documentation systems, such as ProgressBook or Infinite Campus.
