Job Summary

We are urgently seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Technology Instructor - Substitute to provide active and effective learning experiences for our students. As a substitute instructor, you will play a vital role in teaching classes, labs, and clinical settings, as well as participating in campus and student activities. Your primary responsibilities will include instructing classes, preparing lesson plans, assessing student performance, and maintaining a positive and professional learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct classes as assigned, utilizing instructional plans and approved student material
  • Prepare for classes by organizing and becoming familiar with student material, and prepare lesson plans and course material as required
  • Objectively assess students for academic performance, providing regular and constructive feedback through approved channels
  • Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, setting the example and being the role model for professionalism and conduct
  • Proactively inform Program Director of any student attendance, academic, or behavioral concerns for retention management
  • Appropriately maintain student records, grades, and attendance to ensure accuracy, and ensure compliance with the published attendance policy
  • Facilitate tutoring and makeup work as needed, ensuring and monitoring student participation, and refer students to the Program Director and/or Academic Dean if additional advising is necessary

Essential Qualifications:

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Must be credentialed in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
  • Minimum of four years clinical experience in surgical technology, with at least 2 years in the operating room scrub role within the last 5 years
  • Minimum of an associate degree in surgical technology
  • Strong knowledge of surgical technology principles, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teaching skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and maintain a positive and professional attitude

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, the following preferred qualifications will be considered an asset:

  • Previous teaching or instructional experience in a surgical technology program
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementation
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional methodologies
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and educational technology
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines

  • Technical skills: Strong knowledge of surgical technology principles, practices, and procedures, as well as familiarity with educational technology and learning management systems
