The Public Health & Policy Internship involves working with leadership to conduct research, develop policies, and implement health interventions aimed at improving mental health and reducing loneliness.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Evidence-Based Research:
- Review peer-reviewed literature on purpose, loneliness, and health outcomes
- Analyze existing data from Voice Up's 14+ case studies showing health transformation
- Identify connections between purpose intervention and specific health metrics
- Document how authentic connection reduces healthcare utilization and costs
- Research social determinants of health related to isolation and disconnection
- Explore health disparities across demographics, cultures, and socioeconomic groups
- SPORTS & MENTAL HEALTH FOCUS: Research connections between athletic participation, identity, and mental health outcomes
- Investigate mental health challenges specific to athletes (performance anxiety, injury recovery, retirement transition, identity loss)
- Study sports as intervention for depression, anxiety, and social isolation
- Analyze barriers to mental health care in athletic communities and stigma reduction strategies
- Measure Impact & Outcomes:
- Design research protocols measuring health improvements from Voice Up interventions
- Develop surveys and assessment tools tracking mental health, physical health, and wellbeing
- Create data collection systems for ongoing impact measurement
- Analyze quantitative and qualitative health data
- Build evidence base demonstrating cost-effectiveness of purpose-based interventions
- Produce reports showing measurable health transformation
- SPORTS & MENTAL HEALTH FOCUS: Design athlete-specific mental health assessments and screening tools
- Track mental health outcomes for athletes using purpose-based interventions
- Measure impact of sports participation on depression, anxiety, and social connection

- Literature Reviews & Meta-Analysis:
- Synthesize existing research on loneliness, purpose, and chronic disease

- Create annotated bibliographies supporting policy recommendations
