Program Description
Our Pharmacy Resident Program is a 12-month postgraduate training program that is designed to provide residents with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed as clinical, educational, functional, and authoritative pharmacy professionals. The program is divided into four main components:
- Clinical: Residents will work in a variety of clinical settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics, where they will gain experience in patient assessment, medication therapy management, and disease state management.
- Educational: Residents will have the opportunity to teach and mentor students and colleagues, and will participate in educational programs and workshops to develop their teaching and leadership skills.
- Functional/Managerial: Residents will work with pharmacy managers and directors to develop their leadership and management skills, and will participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives.
- Board/Leadership: Residents will have the opportunity to participate in state and national pharmacy organizations, and will attend conferences and meetings to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in pharmacy practice.
Objectives
The objectives of our Pharmacy Resident Program are to:
- Connect residents with the clinical, educational, functional, and managerial aspects of community pharmacy practice
- Prepare residents to assume clinical, educational, functional, and authoritative responsibilities in a community pharmacy setting
- Provide a framework for residents to contribute to the development of pharmacy services in a community setting
- Foster residents' precepting and teaching skills
- Support quality improvement initiatives and projects
- Develop and implement a longitudinal residency project, and present a paper for publication in a reputable pharmacy journal
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for our Pharmacy Resident Program, you must:
- Hold a degree in pharmacy from an accredited school or college of pharmacy
- Be eligible to obtain a pharmacy license within 90 days of the start of the residency program
- Submit residency application materials to the Pharmacy Online Residency Centralized Application Service (PhORCAS)
- Participate in and comply with the principles of the ASHP Resident Matching Program
- Be an immunized healthcare provider or be able to become immunized within 90 days of hire
