Key Responsibilities

As a Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional, you will be responsible for providing a range of support services to students with emotional/psychiatric issues. Your duties will include:

  • Supporting Instruction:
    • Tutoring and providing one-on-one instruction to students
    • Circulating in class to assist students with their learning
    • Helping with group instruction and modifying instructional materials
    • Assisting students with technology and tests/assessments
  • Documentation and Data:
    • Observing and collecting data on students
    • Organizing and recording student progress, including data and graphs
    • Taking classroom notes and attendance
  • Student Management:
    • Providing personal care/hygiene, including lifting and toileting
    • Assisting with medicine regimen and monitoring hallways/study halls
    • Maintaining on-task behavior and correcting minor behavioral problems
    • Escorting students to other classes
  • Clerical:
    • Scheduling activities and copying/stapling materials
    • Operating media and maintaining equipment
    • Running errands and performing related duties as assigned
  • Other:
    • Handling records in a confidential manner
    • Performing related duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e., Para Professional Assessment)
    • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and teachers
    • Personable and empathetic with excellent communication skills
    • Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form
    • Prior experience working with school-age children is a plus
